Hi, does anyone (in NJ or even perhaps NY) know of any (home) visiting physicians who are comfortable with doing trach changes?
My mother needs hers changed because the balloon seems to have a slow leak, but so far we have not found any doctors who are willing to do this in the home. Going to the hospital to have this done would be just a huge stress on her (which only makes her more sick) so if anyone can help I REALLY appreciate it!

Just curious why a physician has to do the change? Has she had problems with changes in the past? I work in homecare in NY and the families and the private duty nurses in the homes do all the rountine trach changes.

Maybe you could have a visiting nurse come to the home for changes if you are uncomfortable doing them? If the physician writes a letter of medical necessity it might be covered by insurance/medicaid. Just a thought.

Good luck!
