I"m trying to decide if I want to sign up for childbirth classes. My husband is a quad and this will be our first baby. From the description of the class, it sounds like it's mostly going over the stages of labor as well as covering breathing and relaxation techniques. I already know the "stages" stuff forward and backward and I am really not the type to *use* relaxation techniques, not to mention my husband can't do any of the massage-type stuff.

What do you all think? Are the classes worth taking? I still want to take a tour of the hospital before the baby is born, regardless of whether or not I take a class. I just don't feel like I really need to take a class, but I don't want to miss out on anything.

Caution light: You may miss out on a lot if you classify yourself as "not the type to use relaxation" stuff.

Is hubby interested in the content for his own understanding?

For me the most helpful thing was having my husband and the nurse talk me through the pain, and your husband could help with that. They can watch the monitor and see when each contraction is at the peak and knowing that helps you to get through the intense ones.

Good luck you'll do great!
