Hi everyone,

I've had a supra pubic for 3 years now and I believe I made the right decision in having this surgery. I've been a c4,c5,c6 quad for 28 years after a car accident in which a horse darted out vehicle ran out in front of my car. I was only 17 years old at the time.

Anyway, lately I've been feeling like I have a slight infection all the time. I do take cranberry pills to battle any infection but I still have auto dysreflexia. I do try and keep everything clean and I was just curious if anybody else out there might be doing something else to prevent any type of infection?

Thanks

I've had my supra-pubic catheter for 30 years now and I almost always have a low level infection. My urologist doesn't worry about it unless it gets out of hand. As long as it's just slightly cloudy urine or maybe a slight smell he just lets it go. It's only when I get some spasticity in the bladder, some sweats or chills that he gives out an antibiotic for it.
Just a regular guy making his way through life.

My boyfriend battles chronic UTI's and has a supra-pubic as well. He has much better luck with Dmannose, which you can get at a health food store or online - I have two friends that use it as well and have had great luck. It is a simple sugar, and the bacteria attach to it instead of the bladder wall.
