I received an email from a mother asking about travel advice for a trip she is planning for her son's 25th birthday. Her son is a quad and uses a power chair. I gave her a bunch of useful tips as well as other wheelchair travelers but she then sent me a 2nd email that almost threw me out of my chair. she tells me that the airline is asking $200-$500 for, in short, to deal with his power chair.
I'm a para and have NEVER paid a dime to have the airlines transport my wheelchair. Is different for someone in a power chair? Two friends tell me that this doesn't seem right either... is this not what the ADA law is all about?
I'm waiting to hear back from her what airline it is. All I know is that it's an American one.
Any thoughts or personal experiences I can share with this nice mother trying to plan a trip for her son's 25th birthday?
Thank you kindly!
