Ok, my boyfriend had a Ford Probe car before his accidents, but is assuming, as it is quite a small car, thsat it will be too difficult to transfer in and out of it, so he may be swapping with his sister's peugeot 206 (i think, im not very good with cars). i have the following questions:

what adaptions need to be made to the car?
is it possible for him to keep the ford car?
will he have to retake his driving test?
any other information would be most appreciated.

my boyfriend's a T6 by the way,

thanx a million,

maddie xxx

Hi Maddie.

I drive with controls also. Your supposed to buy a new set of controls for each car you have and have them fitted proffesionally. I know people and ive done it myself where you can adapt old controls to fit other cr types. Not sure if this is legal or not but the guy who used to fit mine said when anyone he fitted controls to their car had an accident the first thing the police did was check the controls and contact him.

As for the car the basic controls are the same price from a mini to an aston martin. Depending on his disablity as im not too sure what the t6 etc means, lol extra control units vary alot from basic hand accelarator and brake are from £300 fitted to £20,000 for someone who needs to drive with a joystick. I live in Durham and in Newcastle there is a specialist centre who assess people for driving. Its called Hunters Moor hospital. Maybe worth giving them a ring cause they might know a centre near you if you are in the uk. I will find their number and post it for you. I have a friend who is tetra and drives with accelarator and brake with a tri pod steering knob and and electronic switch fitted to the end on the hand control for the indiactors. As long as your alive you can drive really but it does cost. You can go on the waiting list at motabilyty and they may pay for your adaptions themselves if you cnt fund them. Your welome to chat to me thro messenger or email if you want to chat or ask anything more. I will find the phone number for hunters moor and post it for you. If you dont use it then thats ok or outside the uk then it may be well worth still gving them a ring.

I forgot to add. If hes past his test in a manual then you can get manual cars adapted but will be really hard to get used too. i would go for an auto and no he dsnt have to re sit his test just make dvla aware of his condition.
