Howdy.
As some of you may know, I've had an illiostomy pretty much ever since gimpdom. While, after 2 1/2 years, 5 surgeries on it, multiple blockages resulting in puking and feeling crappy, and minus 18" of my small intestine, I've finally found a computent doctor that I have some faith in that wants to reverse the damn thing. Right now the plan is I go under the knife for the 11th time on March 16.
So I'm wondering, what am I in for afterwards? I've never had to do any sort of bowel routine before and am not really sure what to expect. So please, enlighten me.

Hard to say with all the damn hospital food, but those jackasses at the RAH botched the original surgery (twice) and almost killed me, then this asshole jams his finger in up to the knuckle and tears part of my intestine

Hey Ratticis

Haven't had an illiostomy, so can't say, but if you come back to a standard SCI bowel routine (does such a things exist?!) then it's like everything else, it will take a bit of getting used to. You'll learn to regulate it with diet, water intake, exercise / standing, and maybe meds / suppositories. Anything sounds better than what you're going through. Some have it easy and others find it a bugger. Glad you have found a doctor you have confidence in anyway.

Best of luck. Re-find this thread and report back afterwards.

i know your life has been a living hell one set back after another. at least you are still here. if you end up like the rest of us doing a standard bowell routine isn't bad at all. my routine takes 15 minutes tops. it's nothing compared to all you've been through. i'll keep you in my prayers.
hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

So in less than 12 hours I should be on the operating table. The prep is brutal, but nothing compared to what i've already had to endure, and knowing there's an end in site makes it bareable.
Thanks so much for all the support and I'll be sure to let everyone know how things go. Thanks again!

WTF!!!! That's a (if you'll pardon the expression) sh*tty thing for them to do. Don't those a**holes talk to each other?

Does this guy f**k with his son's head, too?

Sorry ratso,, didn't mean to go off like that,,, but sometimes these guys piss me off. They seem completely unaware that the people they are treating have lives, too.

I guess we all have our own horror stories,,, just hate to see you going thru one, now.

By the way,,, how were you posting while in the ambulance?

Is this what rat-boy had?

Those who have had them say colostomy's are great.
Any opinions?

It wasn't the surgeon, it was the morons here giving me prep that was never ordered. My doctor here is NEVER around, always chasing his whore of a wife. The retards here just pull things out of the air again, just like when I was "nauseous" and had no upper body strength and couldn't transfer myself! All I said was my arm strength wasn't where I'd like it. Morons!
And I was posting from my BlackBerry, same as i've been doing for the last several months.

I has an illiostomy, not collostomy. Small intestine, not large. Probably easier to deal with as things would be more digested. 90% of my output is liquid! Plus they keep f*@king it up! Goddamn royal Alex 'experts'

Rat-bone, yer doc's wife, is she attractive?
Would she perhaps do a beat up old paraplegic a small favor?
I really could use a little action here. But do to a paucity of funds I'm finding it rather difficult to attract the right kind of woman. Maybe if you were to have a lil' talk with her?

E, is the 'right kind of woman' the kind that leaves afterwards? Cus that's a hooker. Anyways, I doubt that bitch would do anyone a favor. She wouldn't give a dying man a BJ.

The last time I even saw my doc was 2 weeks ago and that was in the hallway when I was on the way to the shower. Haven't talked to him in 3 weeks.

When his head's in the game, he's good. Unfortunitly, lately it's not. The surgeon in camrose is excelent though. Apparently his soon became gimped when he was about my age. He was supposed to go to the gimplympics 4 years ago but got sick and missed out. Pretty confident HE won't abandon me.
But there are a lot of useless doctors here with a god complex (in their mind, they are all knowing). The good to shitty doctor ratio is something like 1:30
