If you fancy trying something new I can recommend THIS .  It's what I've been using since I dumped everything Microsoft five years ago.  If you want to, you can load it alongside your Windows.  This is one of the install options.  Everything is done automagically, and you just select Windows or OpenSuse at start-up. This way gives you the safety-net of Windows while you play with and find your way round the new system.
