I have a C5 incomplete injury. I cannot transfer independently so I am looking to drive from my chair. The only vehicle available to do my driving evaluation was a car. It took a couple people to get me in it but I passed my evaluation. I was told by a few people that it is nothing like driving from your chair.

My problem's- I would like to drive from my quickie GTI that has power assist wheels. I am having clearance problems being about 57 1/2 inches tall in my chair. The footplate is also only about 2 inches off the ground, preventing me from using an easy lock. I was also told that the chair might be too wide and prevent me from lining up straight with the steering wheel. It seems that I am going to need to get a different chair, or have to use a transfer seat which will limit my independence.

Any suggestions on what I might do?

I know a couple of guys that drive pickup trucks and they transfer onto a seat that lifts them right into the truck and then tha cap on the truck opens and a lift transfers the chair into the cab.
I know they are pricey but it is an option for you.

i don't know about the width problem, but you could always do a small ramp for your casters to hit popping your footplate over the ez-lock

I have just under 2 inches clearance on my A4 and can clear the ez lock. Just remember that the locking bolt under your chair for the ez lock will only be about off the ground
