I'm thinking it might help my daughter's journey through dealing with her dad's disability if she were to meet other kids whose parents are in a wheelchair.

If you are in the San Diego area, I would love to talk to you.

Thanks so much.

It would kinda be hard for me as unfortunately I don't have custody of my kids.....I just get a few weekend visits. BUT I'd try Children's Hospital; since they're affiliated with Sharp they've got the rehab center in this area & Children's helped my sister when I was hurt (I was 14 & my sister was 6), they have a whole center dedicated to child psychology. My kids haven't really had too many issues with "mommy's way of getting around chair or forearm crutches". Heck they could make the wheelchair go in the basic direction they wanted to go by the time they were walking. Having family around to help fill in where I couldn't......things like teaching them to ride a bike and to roller-skate obviously wasn't my doing.

I'd give Children's a call tomorrow & just get someone at the main switchboard & I'm sure they could pass you on to child psychology or whom ever would be best to help you out.

*Wheelchairs are made of a special ocular magnetic alloy......they're "eyeball magnets".*
*I USE a wheelchair, that does NOT make ME a wheelchair!*

Children's hospital is a really great facility and would recommend it. I know one of the doctors there, who is also my neighbor, really great guy.

Thanks. I don't get a sense Children's can help me.

It's really more about our family hanging out with another family in a similar situation. Through the Men's Group at Sharp, we have found another family to connect with....i.e. the dad's injury is t9 --I think and they have a child very close to the same age as ours.

We'll probably do some of the sports events at some point and that will also help us connect with others in the community.

I am a mother of a 5 and 15 year old, and have been in a chair for 10 years. We are not in SD yet, however, we are moving back in July. I grew up there, actually had my car accident there, my daughter was almost 5 when I was paralyzed, and we have been in KY for the last 9 years, soon to move back! Can't wait! We can meet up if you would like this summer. Amy

We are starting to meet some people via the Men's Group at Sharp Rehab. That's every Monday at 4:30 p.m.

One couple we met has a daughter who is a year younger than ours and it helps alot for her to be with another child going through the same situation.

My husband is also going to be going to the Challenge Center. Do you have a membership there?
