I am doing some serious research for places to rent all around the world that are wheelchair accessible. More specifically, places to rent in locations that are vacation destinations that have a roll-in shower.

Currently, I have only found one in Hawaii and Italy... do you know of any? If so please let me know via this post or email me directly at: info@wheelchairtravleing.com.

Sincerely,
Ashley

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I very much love this idea. If you want, you could just take photos of your place and send them to me then I'll post an article on your place with all the details. We should chat more, email me at info@wheelchairtraveling.com. Brilliant idea... I might do the same thing one day. :)

A c5 friend of ours goes to the Radisson in Aruba 3x year. The hotel has first floor rooms with roll in showers, the entire hotel is wheelchair accessible and they have 2 pools. One pool doesn't have an edge so she can easily pull a lounge chair into the pool and sit in the water. They love it so much that she is getting married there next fall. Also, there is a durable medical equipment store a few miles away and they deliver a shower chair and lift to the room before they arrive so it is waiting for them. In addition (and unbelievable) the immigration folks come onto the plane, escort her off, get her luggage and take her to the front of the custom line so she can get thru quickly. As soon as my husband is ready to travel we plan to go!

Two years ago I rented a villa on the Tuscany/Umbria boader called LaPietra through Altabella Villas www.altabella.com. La Pietra is part of a collection of 5 farm houses. The villa is one house that has upstairs and downstairs apartments that can be rented together or separately. We stayed downstairs, of course. The apartment had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one with a roll-in shower and laundry. The bedrooms and bathroom were up one small step, but the groundskeeper built a very nice, easy wooden ramp for it. He also installed grab bars in the bathroom for me -- so it should be ready for anyone else who needs it.

The apartment also had a nice kitchen and living area with fireplace. There was wonderful outdoor living spaces with unbelievable views. There was also a pool that was not easily accessible. We had to drive a little way down the hillside and wheel though some tall grass, but it was worth it.

The owner of the villas will cook for you if you like or set up a cooking demonstration. They will also help set up side trips. We visited an alpaca farm, beekeeper and potter. Great place to stay for a week or more!

Super! Thank you! I will certainly look into this. It's funny that it has a roll-in shower but then you need a ramp to access the bedrooms. Thank you for being the pioneer and making it more accessible for others. How did you feel about exploring the rest of the area of Tuscany? I imagine lots of cobble stones and small doorways... which are not too fun to deal with. What activities did you do while there?
