GB, it's obviously a miscommunication between her and the Dr. Nothing that 8 or 9 phone calls shouldn't clear up.

GB,

Honestly, since when did you become the favorite plaything of the Goddess of BS?

After we have all had an overnight to scream in frustration and maybe shoot 100 rounds into the basement wall (worth going down there for this) take your cues from how Mike handled his legal problems. Write this man a letter, respectfully of course, and copy the rheumatology woman and at least 6 or 8 other doctors in the system, including this guy's supervisor, the hospital administrator, oh hell I don't know your system but some bureaucrats and definitely a patient advocate. Don't forget to include a local politician.

It is now clear the man is engaged it a long-term strategy meant to discourage you from seeking further treatment. It is not so different from Medicare's strategy here in the States, wherein they deny all applications for disability insurance simply because they know 50% of the people applying will be so discouraged they do not appeal. He is bullsh**ing and behaving unethically.

If you let enough of the right people know he is doing this he will change course quickly to shut you up. That is my reading of things and I bet Tinbasher can give you proper cues for handling this matter expeditiously.

Trust me on this GB, it is not personal and really has little to do with your weight. Your weight became an easy tool in a business-as-usual strategy to minimize the number of operations he does. It is unethical, therefore he cannot continue with the strategy if you let people know about it. However many is necessary. just quote what he initially agreed to do, mention your rheumy witness , and expect him to do as originally planned.

Have I repeated that enough times? Of course you took it hard- and personally. That is how it was meant to effect you. Yet it is not really personal and you won't remain in that mental zone- you will go on attack and show the bastard how to be an ethical doctor.

Let Mike's example lead your way on this and I think you will end up finding it somewhat amusing.

GB you need to seperate the emotion from the facts.

Line up all the facts that got you to the present weight. Who said, what, why, when, h ow etc, you know the score. Then compose THE letter detailing all this and explain how hard you worked to comply, self driven and how you find the present state of affairs incomprehensible and obviously due to incompetence somewhere in the system. Send it to the Surgeon and your GP, copy your local MP and this secretary/practice partner/waste of space. You should put the cat right amongst the pigeons!

Once you have sent this follow up a few days later referring to the letter and demanding to know the Surgeons first available date to work on you as you have waited long enough, complied with all the requirements and now have even had to take the organising and scheduling of your treatment into your own hands.

Then sit back for a week and see what happens, then get on the phone and chase up either a response or confirmation or rejection of any course of action proposed. GP's can be good at working the system if you have a good one, if not then I guess you are relying on yourself or any contact you have made thst seemed helpful.
Good Luck,
EC.

Hi all. Thanks for the suggestions. It's fortunate that my wife was with me for both consultations, so I do have a very reliable witness.

I don't think the surgeon is at fault, Pat - although it's possible. I think the silly rheumy woman just got it wrong so I'm playing it gently to start with. I sent an immediate written reply to her, copy my GP, telling her why I think she is in error. I have all the correspondence so I was able to quote from the surgeons report to my GP in which he stipulates the target he set back in November. I'm backing that letter up with separate letter to the surgeon. Both letters are calm, polite, and factual (although I did lots of teeth grinding as I was typing them).

I'll escalate things and send in the ninjas if I don't get a positive response. :)....... See? ............ I'm smiling again!

Carpe Diem

You can handle this, GB. I have complete faith in you.

GB-
Brilliant and sensible, you already have things in hand. You know how the internet is- I can get all excited about someone else's drama, have the full 3 acts written out, and write in myself as a champion at the same time! :boxing:

I did get a fine night's sleep knowing that the knowledge and experience in this forum is more than adequate to set straight your situation.

Well, I sent a message to my people to sit tight and wait for further instructions, but they may have already gotten rid of Lady Macbeth. They are highly efficiant :assassin:

They whooshed through my etheric neighborhood at such lightning speed I was unable to catch their wake. Yeah, Lady Macbeth is probably a smudge on her floor, but no word until she fails to show up for hand-ringing on Monday morning.

Sorry to hijack your event GB but I'm pissed off BIG time! Bloody pressure sure on my right buttock has made a reappearance and I'm not happy! 7 weeks to go to the family holiday and I'm bedridden again, my 11 year old daughter is going to kill me. I've wrecked the last 2 holidays, broken back 2009 and broken leg last summer.
This little blighter better heal in time........

Colin, your head is all wrong. You didn't wreck the holidays. You were ill. You couldn't do anything about that any more than you can stop the sun shining. STOP THIS PERPETUAL GUILT TRIP - Oops didn't mean to hit caps lock. Maybe the gods meant me to shout at you! :)

Beating yourself up like this is pointless. You KNOW that is true because you are a very intelligent man. It is not helping with your recovery. You know this as well. So why do you keep doing it?

Anyway, lecture over. I'm sorry about you bum. It WILL pass. Now go find someone to give you one of these  .

Carpe Diem

OK, why do I feel like a kid in school who has just been dragged to the front of the class and given an embarassing lecture?
I'll just roll off to bed and stay there for several weeks then!

Ha Ha! Just a friendly admonishment from someone concerned about your well-being. I don't start throwing the blackboard chalk or wielding the slipper until much later. :D

As for the bed............ I'll leave others to advise on whether that's the best course of action.

Also, leave some room for your daughter to be angry with you. If you take up all the guilt in the house, she will be unable to reach the blame threshold. She is old enough for a lovely 2 weeks at a summer camp for kids.
