A guy bet his neighbor $100 dollars that his dog could jump higher than a house.
Thinking this not possible, the neighbor took the bet an lost.
Why did he lose the bet?

Two trains travel toward each other on the same track, beginning 100 miles apart.
One train travels at 40 miles per hour; the other travels at 60 miles an hour.
A bird starts flight at the same location as the faster train, flying at a speed of 90 miles per hour.
When it reaches the slower train, it turns around, flying the other direction at the same speed.
When it reaches the faster train again, it turns around -- and so on. When the trains collide, how far will the bird have flown?

John, this doesn't sound like a riddle. It sounds like algebra story problems and my weak little brain just can't process this kind of stuff!!:blushing02: Hopefully Jerry can get it!

It's a mathematical riddle, but a riddle all the same........I'm reckoning on Jerry, Ed and Gordon to name but a few to give the correct answer

90 miles...why?

1 - the trains are 100 miles apart
2 - train no 1 travels 60 miles per hour
3 - train no 2 travels 40 miles per hour
4 - the bird flies at 90 miles per hour
5 - it takes 1 hour for the trains to collide, so the bird flies 90 miles

If I was BBQing, I would open the outside, then butter, garlic salt n pepper the inside, close the outside, set it on the grill, then remove the outside and throw it away, then eat the outside and throw away the inside...I love corn on the cob, one of my favorite things to eat as a kid!

That was great John, brought back memories...thnx!

You are in no way weak minded.

Try this

I went into the woods and got it. I sat down to seek it. I brought it home with me because I couldn't find it. What is it?

Actually, it is the remenant of the "lifeline", being your navel. The umbilical cord would actually be the "lifeline".

God - this riddle thread has developed into some really intellectual exercise! The only thing I could have got was the "house". I'm impressed. I feel stupid. I get back to correcting my essays. At least that's a thing I CAN do! (And I'll be VERY merciful now with my pupils.)

Jerry - didn't I pay proper attention (possibly - I'm in a hurry today), or have you never given the solutions to the original riddle? There are still a few I wonder about.

I've heard the term, but more typically we use "source". Maybe the term "head of a river" is a British usage. Where are our U.K. folks on this one?

Outside of the UK but it's the answer nonetheless

The term river head equates to river source. Just different terminology.

I've also heard "head waters" as the source of a river. I forgot about that one yesterday. Where did the brain cells go?
