As a relativley recent practitioner of the art of Intermitent Self Catheterisation and use of sheaths I am interested in how other members using this method "rig up for night".

At present I just attach an night bag to my legbag and lay the leg bag alongside me, tap open and let it flow through (hopefully, been a few airlocks). This is what I was taught in the hospital during rehab but as usual does not mean this is the best method.

Does mean lying on my side or turning at night can tangle the plumbing though.

How do any other guys in here handle the night shift?

cheers for any ideas.

Pull the sheath off the legbag.

rinse legbag.

put in a little antiseptic detergent and some water which will kill the bugs during the night.

empty and rinse the night bag, which has had antiseptic detergent and water in it all day and is now clean

plug your sheath onto the night bag.

In the morning do the oppostie operations.

enjoy.

I use water to clean the leg and bed bag every day.
Before getting on to bed, I remove leg bag, and wash inside leg bag with plenty of water.
Attach Bed bag, and hang it on wheel chair. I made my own bed bag hanger on small bamboo stick. 4 metal hook for bed bag and one bigger hook to attach on top of wheel. This way bag is almost level with bed, giving extra tube length.
At night I cath direct to bed bag so no need to keep bottle and don't have to worry about Urine spill.
While turning I make sure tube is not under me and not getting pulled.

Yeah, put the leg bag away at night and connect directly to the bed bag. If you keep the bag lower than the bed it will develop suction as it drains and help to keep the condom cath empty. I have spasms that are triggered by my bladder getting full and some nights I will run an inttermitant cath through the condom cath and into the neck of the condom, where it will hold it. This really isn't recommended as some bugs have an affinity for plastic, so you have to keep your stuff clean. Better than getting spazzed awake all night..

God, reading these posts makes me think i have it easy.

I ISC before bed then just plug a night bag into my leg bag and make sure it'll run OK. No cleaning or anything - I just get a clean sheath in the morning and change the leg bag 2 or 3 times a week.

Life's too short to be rinsing and disinfeting everything all the time.

A little isopropyl alcohol works pretty well, in keeping the bags disinfected.

I attach directly to my night bag, too. I also straight cath thru the sheath morning, night, and in the early afternoon. I've been told to keep my bladder empty, this way, to help prevent ecoli colonization from becoming a problem.

Exactly the same routine I'm using at present including ISC through the sheath, just wanted to see what else people do.

Thanks all for your comments but seems some of you are working awfully hard.

Got to say I like the home made "Bamboo Bag Holder" brilliant!

get two neck pillows placed between your legs and a night bag stand from district nurse for the night shift
at night contiually flush the day bag through to avoid any air locks and blockages before connectting night bag
i hope this is of use

hahah you guys are all so sterile and orgaized..
I disconnect my legbag (leave condom on because i have a condom on all day) but my legbag on the floor tube up just to ensure it doesnt leak. Then i connect to a nightbag thats in garbage bucket beside my bed (once again decreases spill chance) Then the next mornin i reattach the legbag from the previous day and off I go. I do this until the legbag starts to smell or it breaks (usually lasts me about a week.. sometimes two weeks if i empty it frequently.
haha the joys of being 18 i guess :suicide:

We don't do a night rig for Chris.

During the day, we'll cath before we go outside for a long period, or every three to four hours if he's just bumming around the house. Then at night before the last thing we do before I crawl in to bed is cath one more time.

He wears a brief during the night, and I usually wake him up to cath at around 2:30 am, but since we've gotten on this routine he's had minimal leakage.

I do have to cath him again first thing in the morning though, if we wait even a few minutes after he's awake we have issues.
