Hello, I am fairly new to this site so I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Mac, I am 24 and live in a suburb near Chicago.
A little about my injury - I dove into shallow water and
broke my neck, and now I am C5-C6 complete quad. After my injury I spent a month in University of
Wisconsin Hospital and later was transferred to RIC - Rehabilitation
Institute of Chicago where I spent 3 months on 7th floor which was the
SCI floor. I am having a hard time adjusting to what happened to me.
I am planning to go to project walk in June, and I am seeking more information about Project Walk.
I have been to their website and checked out their videos.
If you have been there, what hotel did you stay at, and how much was it per night?
I have medicaid, so I do get supplies - what should I do to have my supplies delivered to the hotel?
What airport did you land on, and how did you get transportation to the hotel?
How were the therapists, and did you get any functions back?
I am planning to go there for 2-3 months so I need the most info I can get.
Thank you for all the information.

Been to PW in Boston now Journey Forward. I went with my PT for a week for the train the trainer deal. It was an intensive week of 3 hour sessions a day. Their trainers trained my PT and I on specific exercices for my specific levels of ability at that time. I went about 1 1/2 yrs ago and am still progressing through the custom workouts they made for me. I drove and stayed at a Holiday Inn. My wife came with and acted as my nurse (she is my nurse). All in all a good program. Their definition of walking is not mine. Very few of their graduates actually "walk". But any kind of exercise, stretching program is going to benefit you. Workout as much as possible to gain as much strenthg as possible. I have very few muscles that actually work but strengthening has helped give me much more ability. I can even pick up my laptop now, woohoo!

Hi, i went to Project Walk last september/09. Called them in Carlsbad they will guide with everything you need to know. Try to bring someone with you for their Program Train the Trainer so you will have someone to help you with your exercise program when you will be back home. They have a great knowlegable staff. Their web site gives you address were you can stay or rent appartment for an exented stay. Carlsbad and the area is very accessible and people are very friendly. You can also check Trip Adisor for more info off the area. You should see some changes with your body as soon as you start your exercise. Try to go off medication as much as you can it will help you alot. Planning my next trip this summer. Good luck!!
