Hello,

My name is Dusan and I am c5-c6 since 1994. Since 4 months ago I start to sweat when I get up from bed to wheelchair. The symptoms are : my left shoulder/arm and left half a face sweat and shoulder and arm are cold. That last like 1-2 h and stop but shoulder and arm left cold. The minute I go back to bed I am back to normal. Another thing because I take a rest in afternoon and when I get up in the evening the sweat are more than 60% less. Also a even more strange is that for this 4 months I had 5 days a month ago when I didn't sweat at all, it was so nice to be back to normal!!! I ask doctor and he said it's my neovegetativ system, ands it's normal just inconveniently, some how I don't believe it is.
Does any one know why is this happening after 16 years and how to stop it, it drive me crazy?

please help

thanks

Hi Dusan,

I tired to add thsi twice before and it didn't post. Anyway

I'm sure there are many here who know more than I do. But... I think this is called hyperhydrosis and it can occur alone or with autonomic dysreflexia. Just use the search function here for "sweating" and you'll get a lot of hits.

Good luck.

It could be a form oF AD. I haven't sweat at all since my SCI, so I'm not much of an authority on the matter.

Q is right, it is AD..sometimes i figure out whats causing it, sometimes not...AD is a secretive little bastard and doesn't always give a reason

Dusan; my name is joe i'm 45yrs old i've been a quad since 1981. I recently started taken *Pro-Banthine (propantheline)* for sweating & stomach spasm. It works for me! The sweating decrease alot!! Very Very Satified! The only side affect has been dry mouth.. Try it if you can.
Here a link for some info: My link

worth remembering that autonomic dysreflexia (ad) doesn't occur for no reason. the probanthine might work but you might just be masking symptoms not treating them. have you checked your chair and position when you're in it - if you settle as soon as you get out of it you could find it's there where your problem lies.

Dusan,

I had similar experience 10 years post injury. Just the same as you describe it added erections of penis and spasms.
After examinations doctors put Arachnoiditis as a diagnose. This is common SCI complication and no treatment is available.
Sweating went away by itself with no treatment. After that I lost some sensitivity.
Later I was advised by another experienced SCI to not have any examinations of the spinal cord. I advice you the same.
In my 35 years after SCI I'have sweat more or less all the time and only try to avoid activities and body positions that cause sweating.
For example now I sweat heavily when I lie on my belly, so I avoid it.
Check your blood pressure and if it isn't too high do nothing and soon sweating will go away.

Take care of the blood pressure

I had this problem when I was dealing with the toxicity of too much of a certain drug (gabapentin) in my system. It was probably some form of dysreflexia. I'm a T-10 para, and my legs and groin would sweat profusely..enough so that my bed was frequently sweat soaked. Once the problem was rectified, my sweats stopped.

I reckon you're having a similar problem with AD. Talk to a doctor who is experienced with SCI issues.

I am a C-7 T-1 quad 40 years now. I have always had sweating only most of the time on only half of body at once right down middle of face to right or left. They ae cold sweats my body temp lowers. I get cold and clammny even in summers heat. It stops 90% of the time when I lay down. If its not caused by pain, bladder problems, bowel problems or plain discomfort from being in tangled position the probantheline bromide works great.

Dusan

sounds like your body is trying to tell you something. it may be minor but serious enough that it keeps getting your attention. i'd do the check list like --uti, cushion, check your toenails to see if one of them may be ingrown.also check to see if that side shoe is too tight. i've found when it's just on one side. he problem is usually on one side too. may or may not be that side.

check your blood pressure .if it's not high,it's probably a minor problem. if it's high, the problem is more serious.

as long as your sweating, your body is saying fix it.
