My name is Allison & I'm a quadriplegic. My injury level is severed at the C-5-6 level. I'm not able to move my hands but they constantly hurt & give me such problems. At one time both hands were palm side up but I had surgery to my right hand & is usually palm side down. I would love to have surgery on my left hand but it was much too painful for me to think about doing it again. Most of my fingers won't straighten out but sometimes my sister-in-law can get them to straighten (she's going through breast cancer surgery/chemo & is unable to help with me). My hands also stay in incredibly scaly & dry. One reason is because, it is so very hard to scrub my hands when they're folded. I usually just scrub my hands with a washcloth with soap & then put some type of lotion or oil on afterwards but they're never completely free of dry scaly skin.
I'm looking for any ideas of how to straighten out my fingers & try to keep them that way? Next I need some type of scrub, soak or maybe even what to use (ex. Washcloth, loofah or etc.) & I would also need some type of after care product to use such as lotions, oils or etc.?
Let me know if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions for me. You can also e-mail me at quad.mom.2005@Hotmail.com

Hi Allison...soak your hands in a bowl of oil & water, (to remove dead skin) ex-foliate with a crispy dry towel & roll another small cloth/towel & 'hold' in your palms-making them stay open ajar. Enlarge the roll gradually (strap or tape it if necessary) so it slowly allows your fingers to straighten.
Try Alpha Keri 3 step regime... 1: Alpha keri soap-free wash 2: Alpha Keri oil 3: Alpha Keri Lotion. I hope this is available in the USA, as it's made in Australia. www.mentholatum.com.au
