Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and feel great to find such a strong community here.
My girlfriend had a complete cord injury at t7 about 3 weeks ago and I'm trying to help her the best I can...

Here is my first question of many to come:

To keep the different muscles of the leg to be strong, can one use one of these automated fitness machines that send electric signal to stimulate muscle contraction? I know they look like a scam for normal people, but could they help? Anybody tried? We still keep hope that my gf will one day walk or move again and when this happen it would be nice for the muscle to be ready...

Julien,
Sorry about your girlfriend. If she is able to use one you need to look into the FES bike. I used one for 3 months, you just roll your chair up to it. Its self powered that is linked to the stim electric to contract the leg muscles.

Take Care and welcome to the forum, there is a lot of great people here that can answer all your questions.

They won't have it in Thailand. I have an FES Bike in my home. They make it and sell it in the US. Its very expensive (15 grand). And I have relatives in thailand and was actually there this past summer. They dont have that kind of stuff. Maybe you can get an ems unit to use to help.

Thanks vik,

It's true the physical therapist didn't seem to know what I was talking about, even after showing the pictures... my gf is about to move to a more specialised hospital, we'll see there...

Could you give abit more info about 'ems' please, I'm still looking for whatver could help...
