Does anyone know if any of the major car hire companies, eg, Alamo, Avis, Europcar, etc etc, do car hire with hand controls? We are going to be visiting family around the UK over the summer and we would prefer to fly and hire rather than drive from Northumberland. Specifically Im thinking of Stansted and Bristol Airports.

CHEERS!

I think you'll find that all the major companies do hand controls on their hire cars - they're required to provide no worse a service to disabled people under the DDA.

A quick look confirms that hertz provide hand controls on hire cars -

I'd give the companies servicing the airports a ring, I expect you'll need to give them a few days notice. Me - reckon I'd drive and avoid the whole plane and wheelchairs thing but that's just me.

I haven't tried the car hire thing in the Uk, but both Hertz and Alamo do hand controls in US and canada; We are off to canada in June and have arranged cars with Alamo.
