I have started working out and stretching again... yaay me! :(

my left arm/shoulder keeps popping out of place... it has always done this even right after my accident and going straight to physical therapy.

Any reasoning for this or what I can do to stop it??

:( Could be loose tendons and ligaments that are stretched too far, causing the shoulder joint to come out of place or slip. Could be rotator cuff issues, which I am dealing with currently...my RC is torn and kind of shredded...causing mine to pop and slip.

Be sure to warm up really good before your work-out, if it continues to persist, then you should consult your doctor. :doctor:

It's definitely not lose tendons... that shoulder is very tight!

I should probably go see a doctor about a torn RC... ugh. I can hear popping and grinding when I'm being stretched.

you can always use a heating pad on it before you start stretching or exercising and that will loosen it up and should help the popping. it does for me anyways but it only helps for so long and you need to be real careful about getting burned even when its not very hot. i have a big burn mark on the back of my shoulder so i learned the hard way. :(

I will start using a heating pad before stretching and working out... I don't know why I didn't think of that. I have used a heating pad for other things all the time :( thanks guys!

When it comes to muscle tissue, heat is not the way to go.

Firstly, if the muscle is inflamed, the heat makes it worse.
If it is lacking elasticity then ice is whats needed.

Once elasticity is gained, you can use both heat and ice, heat for 10 mins then ice for 10 and so on.
If the issue is that the shoulder dislocates and has done so for years then surgery may be in order, they will insert a pin to keep it in place.

ummm this may seem like a stupid question but how do you know if your muscle is inflamed???

Surgery?? Have you seen my little shoulders?? Hahapins would be sticking out of my skin lol. It is always dislocating.

Hello there! I had my shoulder separated, in a hospital ironically, by A nurse who tried to do a bed transfer by himself. I dealt with pain for quite awhile until my physical therapist recommended taping with kinesio tape. I'm sure you can look online as far as where to tape, depending on your injury. Hope this helps.

Stand -- thank you... I will look into it. This ironically happened or started in the hospital as well. One of my nurses was getting me dressed and all of a sudden my collarbone POPPED and then another big POP... my physical therapist supposedly "put everything back together" but ever since then my shoulder constantly dislocates.

Doesn't help that I haven't worked out in forever and just now starting to get back into the game!

If the muscle was inflamed you would know about it, it would be very sore and movement would be restricted.

Lol as to slim shoulders, I had a friend who had to have the pin inserted, prior to the surgery his shoulder would dislocate 3 to 4 times a week, he has been problem free since.

Ratso suggested ducttape, earlier,,, doesn't that count????

If that sucker is dislocating on a regular basis,, I'm afraid surgery might really be the only cure. The tape may help, short term,,, possibly long enough to build up enough muscle tone to make the dislocations a lot less frequent, tho.

Cool website. I checked its out.
But as for your shoulder, Mine does a little pop every time I rotate it. Im just used to it now but it does hurt now and then. My Chiropractor Cracks and pops by shoulder once or twice a week and it makes it feel pretty good. Just a recommendation but it might help you.

John -- the only movement I have my shoulders is being able to "shrug" other than that no arm movement. I know that my shoulders are sublux (sp?)

Ed -- uggghh I really do not want surgery but sounds like I may have to look into it!

Stand -- I figured that out it was you :hug:

Edtezy -- cool website?? I stay away from chiropractors they scare me lol
