Has anyone been skiing in Australia, particularly the Victorian fields. I'm thinking of going with the family this winter and just wondered if anyone knew of good accesable accommodation and ski guides etc.

Thanks guys.

you can get great deals from aussie and Cardrona particularly has an excellent adaptive program.

the thought had seriously crossed my mind. (my sister owns a walking tour company in Queenstown, I'm an expat kiwi)

I know that it's often cheaper with package deals to fly to NZ and ski than ski in Aus.
I'll be travelling with the wife and kids so I think the airfares would blow my budget.
Definitely going to head back to the mother country soon though, maybe next year.

This is the Disabled WinterSport Australia website. It has a fair bit of info about accommodation, guides, equipment hire etc. I found this website while looking at sit skiing myself, yet I still haven't followed through. I have been told though that you can use your membership to get discounts in New Zealand. If your still in WA, it will probably cost a lot more to travel to New Zealand than it is in South East Australia. I do know that it is a lot cheaper to fly and stay in New Zealand from Sydney and Melboune than going to ski fields in Australia like Thredbo or Perisher Blue.

I'm a Victorian and skier C5-C6 and although the NSW ski-fields are possibly better, they are too far away.

I was VP of Disabled Wintersports Victoria (previously VDSA) and in 1991 we ran the first Disabled Skier's Championships at Mt Hotham (prior ones and since ciombined with Armed Forces competition) and it was a great event.

Mt Buller has poor snow (due to low altitude) but when it is good is great fun and a "party' village. The Ski School also has a range of sit-skis (including my last one).

I personally prefer Falls Creek for better snow and weather (choose either side of the mountain) bigger runs and plenty of chairs or T-bars. There are camps run from half way down the mountain that are wheelchair accessible so contact Disabled Wintersports or Wheelchair Sports Vic.

Photos of skiing on my old site were at Falls Creek. See Gizmo Bytes Snow Skiing

Charlotte Pass is good for gentle slopes and is a bit more family oriented and only has one resort. Falls Creek has a greater mix of different levels of runs and many many more resorts.

I've haven't had a ski since my injury so would love to hear how you go.

Being an Aussie and not being too fond of the cold, I'm going to head to Fiji once my gf gets over her achilles surgery...whilst you presumably will be skiing down the slopes.

Go hero Pistol!

charlottes would be rubbish for adaptive skiing,

firstly it is oversnow transport to access. and very limited facilities
