I've just come across this article which might be of interest to sone:

Melanie Reid - Why Did I Let This Happen To Me (Times Online)

Don't know whether this has been mentioned on here before as I've not been able to get onto the boards as much recently.

I definitely understand the melting walls. ICU drugs are nasty.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

That's a great article. She conveys so many of the feelings I've had, but is much more eloquent in her writing that I ever could be.

I tend to flit around a number to get a consensus. Telegraph, Guardian, Times, etc... I suspect they'll all make us pay in the end, and really I guess that's reasonable. It's a big expensive machine that keeps churning it out. Advertising will wane in the next few years. Everyone will want a bigger share of a smaller pie.

Melanie Reid is in the ward next to my Dad. He was injured in Sept 09. C2/3

For anyone that is interested we started a blog after Dad took his first breath off the ventilator.
It is the recovery story from the family perspective.

I wish Melanie all the best in her recovery.

Best wishes to your dad and your family also. Good blog!

Welcome to the site. And do come on here and ask any questions or rant or be happy at each of his steps of progress. It's a good community with a wealth of experience, which is readily shared.

Guido,

Is there anyway you can copy and paste all the articles she has written.

I know its a massive pain in the bum but I think she is a fantastic writer and I'm being a bit of a cheap skate so don't want to pay for the subscription.

Thank you if you can.

Hi Sticks - read them online until they changed to paid subscription, and afraid to say I haven't read them since, except the occasional one when we were away for a weekend and bought some papers.

Anyone else here...?

Thanks Guido. I've just spent an hour or so reading her articles, she puts things into words very well.

Brings back memories, some bad, but also some good.

I'm back there early next month for a check up, I might try and see if I can say hello if I'm allowed.
