Hi,
I wanted to introduce myself. I was recently in a rear end auto accident on January 6th of 2010. I was sent to Physical therapy a month later as things were'nt improving for me. A year before this I had just gotten out of an intensive rehab program for a traumatic brain injury as well. It's been a long process for me. It's been hard keeping up with all of the changes my muscles have been going through. Some, I understand with literature and explanation but functional wise, it's still hard to understand the day to day changes.

It's taken me awhile to get the right help and to the right kind of doctors and finally a week ago the neurologist told me this is a spinal cord injury that isn't going to get better. I'm still waiting for his diagnoses to make it to my primary doctor. So I can get the right kind of help in PT.

This effects every limb of my body and mostly at first my muscles were extremely tight for a long time. PT was okay but with more I do tighter things were getting. Now they are changing to limp and weak and I've lost about 20 lbs. mostly all of which was muscle weight.

I joined this site in an effort to gain some self understanding and some support as my friends and family just don't seem to understand the changes that are happenning to me.

Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,
whitelight4us

Welcome friend. Read all you can on this site and you will learn tons about the range of things you may expect. What your Doctor said about "it won't get better" may be a poor choice of words. The cord doesn't heal itself, but many things are likely to get better.

The muscle tightness is something many of us deal with, but it still pays to push ourselves.

Meanwhile you may want to get a second opinion from another neurologist.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

Thank you for the welcome. It may take me a little bit to learn to navigate these forums. I do believe while the spinal injury may not get better that my learning to function with all of these changes will improve. I realize this is going to be a long process of keeping what I have got in shape so I don't loose it. So to speak. My muscles are quite limp at the moment. When they get moving they continuously become more tight. Is this fairly normal to what others have experienced. Four four months they were nothing but tight. Thank you once again for the welcome.

Hi Norma and thank you for the warm welcomes. It's just nice to be able to be someplace where ppl understand and probably understand tons more than I do at this point. Thanks again and nice to meet all of those who send welcomes.

Welcome-- THis is a good place to be. I wouldn't put much stock in the "it won't get better" comment. Over time there can be improvement, plus as you learn how to deal with your situation things get better. I wish you well.
