Going through the process of trying to obtain a second chair just now through Access to Work and one of the two suppliers that Access to Work are getting to deal with me are bringin a Helium for me to try out amonghst about 6 other chairs and the other company is planning on bringing 4 Kuschalls including the K series and possibly the R33.

As far as I understand it they have no connection with your regional wheelchair service (which is great as mine is Edinburgh and they think the GPV is modern having just given me one in January when I was still an inpatient!)..

Any advice from others about the pro's and con's of Kuschall, Quickie, Colours, RGK etc would be appreciated as I need to test and decide in the next 3 weeks.

Floated the idea of a Marvel M1 but don't think they bit the hook on that one, we'll see.

Any advice would be appreciated ASAP.

Thanks all in advance

Sorry Cas it's been many years since I was even close to 17". Ex front row rugby player in my much younger days, used to have thighs like tree trunks (ask the nurses in the spinal unit, used to take extra 2 of them for a log roll just to hold my legs!)

Anyway good luck in selling it I hope you get as good price - try and sell it back through the supplier it may be the best way of getting a decent price!

One of the supply companies coming to see me is bringing a 19" Helium for me to try.

Did you like it even if it was too wide?

I have a Kuschall K4. I like it manly for 2 reasons,
1) very less frame work, so easy to lift it over driving seat and place it on passenger seat.
2) Backrest locks when you folded down, this makes easy to lift the frame by backrest, and no need to worry about backrest opening while getting chair inside car.

Chair is light, easy movable side guards that protect trousers. Down side is that the chair can flip back easily. Default Axel (dont know what is it called, i am talking about the Rod in the middle to with wheels are attached) cannot be fitted with anti tip if you plan to have one (not mine anyway), so if you plan to have Anti tip, please mention in advance.

Only other chair I have experience with is Quickie GPV. I say stay well away from it if possible.

To be where you have never been before

You have to do what you have never done before

Hi Colin

Only have experience with a K4, and about to take delivery of my 2nd. Chose to stick with them, because my last one has taken everything that I have thrown at it over 6.5 years, and been a great chair. Kuschall (through my dealer) have been excellent and the one problem I encountered they sorted immediately without hesitation and at their expense (the back bar was too weak, which they then corrected across the board (about 4.5 years ago).

I own both an RGK (Maxima) and a Küschall (K4). I've had my K4 for just over a year and use it as my everyday chair and it's fantastic, it's a lot more compact than my RGK when folded and easier to assemble.

I can't really fault either manufacture, both chairs are equally well made. At first I found RGK's after sales a bit hit and miss, however last year when I decided to give my RGK a much needed service they were superb from start to finish and my RGK is now in pristine condition if I need to break it out due to a problem with my Küschall.

If you have any specific questions Colin feel free to ask away, I'll do my best to give you some answers.

Its very easy to get access to work to purchase your chair :) They do know about wheelchair services and all they ask me is how long have I got to go till my voucher comes in.. well apart from the 5th yr its due.. its 2,3,4 and 5 yrs away!!!!! Never had a problem with the them. Last claim for a chair from them I asked for an RGK with spinergies... and extra set of spinergies for a clean pair, as I cant possibly go into someones home with dirty wheels ;)..... and a of-road front wheel kit for when I go to other wise non accessible homes.. ie.. long drives with gravel!!!! Total spend.. £4.7k.. and they were very obliging!

As long as you can think of a reason why you need the equipment above what an able bodied person might need, you'll get it.

Ps.. the purchase was made through GBL wheelchairs.
