I was not sure about claims that it's the first *off road* chair for us lot.. but I did contact the guy and he gave me a good intellectual response to my rather cynical email!!!! Anyone up for giving it a try? Tim says that he will be doing some test drives in the next 2-3 weeks.. I'm going to take him up on his offer!!! Me cynical me.. ehhehehee

I can understand your cynicism, this more like the 10th off road wheelchair:

As I posted before eldewhere in here relating to this chair looks quite a good idea, needs to loose some weight and I don't know about getting it in and out of vans/cars etc. Still good on him for trying!

It would seem that the drive mechanism and gearing might give it some advantages of some of these on really rough ground, but it looks as though a lot of upper body strength would be required.

Hello Hello.
Sorry to gate crash your discussion, I appreciate it’s an old thread, but just in case you’re still reading it... I work on the Mountain Trike, and I love to hear about problems or concerns people are having with the trike.
We are still prototyping and always trying to improve on our design so please hit me with any observations or comments!
Ems: (I’m not sure about the “first” claim either, some of the makes and models Robbo has listed are more like hand cycles and electric buggies than wheelchairs, but that is splitting hairs) Did you get your test ride? How was it?
Edinburgh Colin: (I tried to find your previous comments but couldn’t, if you’ve got any questions fire away!) Yeah we do need to lose some weight, at the moment it’s 20kg fully assembled and we want to get it closer to 15kg. But it will also quick disassemble into 3 sections, the wheel and drive system will come off in two chunks, one for each side, leaving just the frame and rear wheel. With the seat back rest folding down. So you’ll end up with 3 bits that should fit in the boot of your car. At the moment it is a bit wide to just ride into the back of an accessible van/car, but we are working on reducing this as well.
Greybeard: I’m not going to lie to you, it is a physical activity, but with all things it gets easier with practise, we can change the gearing so that if you find it hard, changing the gear ratio would make it easier. Using the levers rather than pushing on the wheels actually requires less strength and doesn’t injurer your shoulders, so for a manual off-road wheelchair, it’s pretty good.

Hi
I'd like a go. I was talking to someone a few months back about a go and was told they would be in contact after the mobility show. Is now a good time for a go. I live / work on 56 acres of rough ground.
As for the face book page discussion about escalators, why would it be any harder going down than up, i do both in the same way facing uphill and into the escalator.

Haha, not harder, just scarier, I’m a little terrified of facing forward whilst going down one, maybe if we go onto it backwards that will be the solution like you say. Or if we making the seat angle slightly more it would be quite a comfortable seated position when going down. Just wouldn’t want to lean forward.
