OK, the Ot from the wheelcahir servoie came roudn yesterday and broughta Jay Active for me to try rather that the Flo-Tech I have been using. The Flo-Tach had been causing redness etc. So far as I can tell it seems to be fine though I am reserving judgment until I see the redness is less. However, is this a good choice? At 6' 4" and 13st I am not very 'well padded' at my bum and I really want to make sure I don't run inot pressure sores.

Any advice greatfully received. :drunk: :(

Doesn't sound right to me - I was always led to believe that the Flowtech was a for high risk patient cushion and the active for (in relative SCI terms) much lower risk active people. A quick web search confirms this.

Cut and pasted from web sites

Flo-tech is a market leading fluid pressure reduction cushion designed for users with highest risk of skin breakdown or existing tissue damage.

The Jay Active cushion is lightweight and designed for the active client who requires mild to moderate positioning and moderate to high skin protection.

Also from memory the flow tech is much deeper than the Jay active and thereforew unless you've dropped your footplates the corresponding amount you'll be taking pressure off your thighs and putting more on your bum. I'd have thought that the J2 or the J2 deep countour would have been a closer match to the Flowtech in terms of protection. I'd be asking serious questions of the OT if they know what they're doing offering you less protection when you've asked for more.

Thanks for the reply, Russ. I have looked carefully at the sites for Jay and Flotech and, yes, the Flotech is supposed to be better for skin care. Sadly, it is clear that it doesn't work for all of us, well, at least, not for me.

The Jay I am sitting on was all they had in the stores apparently as the Jay range are ordered as required, presumably as they are quite a bit more costly. Certainly, the Jay active is thinner and I seem to be sitting on top of the cushion and thus less of me in contact with it, so there is more pressure on the areas in contact. Neveretheless, the redness is less then the FloTech.

I am thinking of saying that the Jay 2 would be a better bet; I gather Simon uses one among others and he can't do pressure lifts I think. Any other cushion suggestions people?
