I have a problem leaking alittle whenever I lift myself up, bend over too pick something up etc... I don't have an infection. No stones, and am clean as clean can be but no dodctor can give me a real reason for this. I have a unhealed spot on my spine that has apartently been there since the day I got fused back together and they just figured that one out. The drugs they gave me in the meantime also altered the way I have too care for myself. I was told it's probably the drug's. But, I'm not takeing them anymore and this problem still continues. It's like it doesn't matter if it's full or empty. Just alittle comes out. A tiny amount usually but at times I still have too change just so I don't stink. The drugs were too control sweating of my legs as the spot on my spine told my legs I was running hard or something and it would always act up as soon as I sat up then go away after an hour or so. Well, I still have pain but I can live with it and the sweating has gone almost away for reasons I don't know. That's why I quit taking them. So, no drugs, cleans as ever, and 38yrs. old with a 20yr 4 day old injury. Maybe I can get some botox shot in there and make me like new again!

Every comment I have read on this site about botox injections in the bladder have said it did the person no good. My own physician said it might help with the problem of too frequent urination, but that i would loose the ability to pass urine voluntarily- would have to cath more frequently.

Hi,

I had a similar problem after a bladder infection years ago. I worked out that if I taped my catheter down at a certain spot so that the catheter didn't move backwards or forwards then it overcame the problem of leakage when I sat up. My bladder has shrunk and probably prolapsed over the years, so this could be why it happens. Also, I have found due to shrinkage of the bladder, I need to have any tubing that is connected to my catheter to be as wide as possible. Thinner tubing puts the extra stress on my bladder, and if your bladder has shrunk then it maybe that it can't take that extra stress.

Funny you should post this. I was just coming in and complaining too myself about my problem cause it's getting worse and thought about whether someone had any new ideas for me. I was mostly kidding about the botox stuff but have been refered too a uralogist. I'll see what he says when I'm there. I'm hoping for something along the lines of "eat more cheese burgers and get fatter" as the cure. It's getting bad enough that it happens about 6 times a day and all I have too do is breath deep and I can make it happen. We will see.........I'll post something if he can give me a real cause for this.

Well as weird as it may seem I think I fixed the problem. I read that someone else was having something like this happen. I read in the post that they were on ditropan, that oxy stuff that I can't remember how too spell and something else called detrol. I thought I had heard of ditropan before so I went looking and sure enough I had been on the stuff a few years ago. So, I tried some again and it worked great for almost 48hrs. then back too the same. So, I went and got some detrol from my doctor since he thought it would work better. Well, all it did was dry me right out and make every bit of fluid go too my bladder. I didn't sleep for a week. So, out they go. It was like I had weird spasms just like my legs and just thought about it for awhile and decided too take twice as much baclophen and tada! No more problem! For now anyway. I think it's been more tham 48hrs. this time so we will see.

i used to leak between caths and i took ditropan but it made my mouth dry so i told my urologist and he put me on oxytrol patch the med in this patch is called oxybutynin. i like it cause i only have to change it every other day and i don't have any bad side effects like dry mouth.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

Hi All,

I also have problems with leaking but don't take any drugs. My question is:
What do you mean by leak ? Small quantities that you hardly feel or frequent urge to piss that you can not hold. As Tetracyclone mentioned above overactive bladder (=frequent urge to piss) and a leak without urge are two different things
I ask this question as i intend to mention the drug mellowgator recomends to my urologist.

Any comment will be appreciated.

rudy,

i am an incomplete injury so i can feel when i have to go. what i meant by leaking is having the urge to pee but before i could get on the toilet to cath i would have peed my pants and my cushion would be wet from urine. it's been a while since i used to pee myself but the frequency was several times a day. so i guess it would be a frequent urge that i couldn't hold.

with medicine i am able to get to the toilet when the urge hits me and i now stay dry in between caths.

I have no sensation so I wouldn't feel anything. I just noticed when and what I was doing the main times it would happen. The biggest being hwen I lift myself out of bed, in and out of truck or off the floor. Also, if I bend over too pickup something and its really far away so I fold myself up good. That always makes me leak. I'm hopeing I gain alittle more over the next few days and we'll see what happens.

ben,

that sounds right. i remember peeing myself when i would transfer or weight shift or when my husband would pick me up to put me in the truck.

i don't cath on a schedule just when i have the urge. if i had no sensation this wouldn't be so.

good luck,

I am on ditropan two times a day and that holds my blatter. A few years ago I had to use the oxytrol patch w/ditropan. I keep a foly cath in me and see my urologist every year. What dose your urologist say? I forgot if u said u seen one. O and btw ditropan can make u get cavities so for u all that have to take it suck on some candy or chew suger free gum. Well I hope u can find what helps u. Me I have been threw hell and back with my blatter as to if I got a uti I would have to drive to the hospital for 7 days a week on Iv meds becouse my body was so use to all the antibiotics. So be careful for u all that r always fighting uti's try to have your body fight it first. Hope this helps someone. I don't really know how this works yet I have only been on here for about a week. If anyone has a question let me know. I don't even know how we get r mess, on here. If someone could let me know that would be great...

Well, I just broke a tooth! So maybe it was the ditropan?? I'm a bad brusher so probably not but good too know. I haven't had a infection for over 2 years and I just use a regular cath that I wash and put in anti bacterial soapy water. As soon as I started doing that evrything was clean, clean, clean. I usually got one about 2-3 times a year before that.

Thanks

Mellow,
Thank you for you detailed description. Obviously it's overactive bladder that I also had some years ago.
Wish you a nice day

Ben,
You are giving very precious information about reusing catheters. Would you specify exactly what type/brand is - intermittent or foley.
You reply will be highly appreciated because lubricated ready to use intermittent caths are not available in my country and what is worse IC are not covered by any insurance, so I'm looking for alternative to foley.
As I understand baclophen is going to solve your problem. Wish you luck.

Looking forward to your posts and hope to see progress.

Well, I use a 14 fr coloplast cath. This si probably the same as you have. It's unlubed but if you get the soap and some distilled water the soap makes it slippery. I'm not sure why I don't get infections anymore but it's got too be the soap as I'm firly lazy when it comes too clean hands. I try but not too the extent some people do.

When your taking ditropan were you taking 2 a day? And if so was it making you clogged up? I can take half a day and its lots. But it also doesn't work. Get back too me on that as I would try takeing more if it would help without mak9ing me ill in the process.

I should have mentioned in my previous posts that I have tried taking ditropan, detrol, and more baclophen and they all worked for about 48hrs. Then back too leak city. My doc is on holidays so I've been trying cominations of these with the baclophen and haveing the same effect. 48hrs and back too the same crap. I'm ready too try anything. I just don't want to wear a pad! Accupuncture? Maybe just cause I like pain. Witch doctor? Don't know one. Medicine man? I can find one of those. Anyone think of anything else let me know. I know I'm not the only one with this problem and I'll get back with anything that helps.

Thanks

Well, since nothing is working including the doctors, I have a theory. I have a spot on my spine that did not heal after my fusing of 3 vertabrae. Like a little sore that the body keeps piling bone on too heal, which it will not since I'm moving all the time. This has caused my lower half too have insane sweats and spasms. Then one day when the doc tells me there isn't anything they can do, the sweating stops, I stopped taking the drugs they had me on and was down too 2 baclophen and 2 losec a day. I thought this was great. Then as the sweating stopped so did the spasms. Now I have no spasms at all and all my muscles have taken a vacation as well. I have big arms, fat in the middle and stick legs. Sexy I know. Well, anyway this lack of muscle may be the leaking problems starting point. Just like someone thats had a bunch of kids has weaked muscle down there. But I can't excercise mine. Not without leaking everywhere! I feel like a snail. Thats my theory anyway. My next step is too see a acupuncturest too see if they can get something going. I did get nerve testing done and theres something there. Just no signal too make them act crazy again!
