I started having very bad dizzy spells a couple on months ago. My head would 'swim', I felt disconnected from everything around me and at times I thought I was going to black out. I put it down to low blood pressure (which I have) so had it checked and everything was normal. I was afraid to mention it to my doctor in case he said I couldn't drive - which I'd all but stopped doing anyway. Last week I worked out that the spells started around the time I started taking Baclofen (100mg x 3 daily) so I stopped taking it and have felt fine ever since. Has anyone else had a similar experience from Baclofen? I used to take it years ago with no side effects so it seems strange it should happen now.

Ya, 300 mg a day of Bacoflen might do it. I can barely stand 20mg a day without nasty siedeffects...

Gosh! 300mg a day! I'm on (what my drs say is ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM dose of tablets) 80mg a day, n had to work up to that by increasing the dosage by 5mg per week.. So yeah, I think it might be that..

Kinda crazy how every dr tells someone that they are on the max. The g/f's dr said she was at the max at 120 mg/day. If your to the point you are having spasms that bad, you might consider getting the pump.

I've been taking just 5mg x 3 daily to reduce Dystonia type cramps and muscle twitches unrelated to the spine. Even this tiny dose makes me feel oddly detached and sleepy. I can't imagine how I would feel on your dose. I'm not surprised it's affecting you.

I agree..I'm the absolute max of 30 mgs 3 times a day :-) so think thats a good move...how are you coping without it? Perhaps you'd be ok just reducing the dose? xx

dear graphics,

my doctor tried to put me on baclofen for spasms. i couldn't take it. it put me out like a light for 16 hours. from what i'm reading your doctor put you on an insane dose.

i now use valium and pot for spasms and that works for me.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

I'm thinking about replacing bacoflen with valium but how the heck does one get off bacoflen when youv'e been on it for two years? Bacoflen withdrawl is a rough business, right?......

Just curious. Hope I'm not abusing this thread but how many times a day would one have to smoke to keep their spasticity under control or would it depend on the potency of the weed?

Mellowgater -

Does the valium make you tired?

Also, with the pot - I think my husband would be opposed to smoking it, but can you tell me more? Would it work if it was mixed with food - say brownies or some type of cookie?

Do you always use both or just sometimes need to use both?

Thanks!!!!!!!

yrs it depends on potency and how bad your spasms are, u just have to hit it a few times and see......no exact science to it.......and yes valium will make u drowsy, but you get tolerant with any drug.........

What an idiot!!!!!!!

Sorry folks, I made a typo error - I was on 10mg x 3 daily! :specool:
I've been fine since I stopped taking it so won't be using it again. It was great being spasm free but, dizyness aside, I'm an incomplete and, although I can't move my left leg at all, the spasms help keep a little tone to my leg muscles. Also, I can bear my weight on my legs (as long as I'm holding on to something) but noticed that this was much more difficult to do when I was on Baclofen so the spasms obviously help. Thanks for all the feedback, it's a relief knowing that Baclofen was the cause of my problem.

Baclofen was shite for me..... soon switched to Valium and never looked back.

Its a multi drug (just made that up), you can use for spasms or to knock you out at night time. Its good for anxiety too. You should be given this 30 mins before job interviews!

Try it?

I take 20mg 4x a day and have no side effects although I wish it made me sleepy at night. But if I forget my pills at the house and skip a day I end up with randome erections for no reason. I think I might try to cut down my dosage and see how my body acts because I don't have bad spasms at all.
