I am a L-1 incomplete. I take nurotin/gabapentin for the burning in my feet.I have recently been experiencing very sharp, shooting pain in my lower thigh, just above the knee and also in the knee. It's only in one leg. I guess my questions are does any of you have this pain?Is it permanent?

I have a constant burning pain in my left thigh, a few inches above my knee. On the bad days, the burning becomes very intense and I'll have a shooting, stabbing pain in other areas of my left thigh. I've had this pain (along with other areas of pain) constantly since my accident 32 months ago. None of the "go to" drugs have provided any relief. Will your pain be permanent? I hope not! As we all like to say, our injuries are all different as well as our recoveries. I hope your pain subsides soon!

I am a T10 incomplete and I also have this burning in my thighs. It is mostly my left thigh. My PT says that it might be nerves trying to wake up since I also have a little quad function now. I don't know, it does seem to be worse after the PT works my quad muscles. To me, it feels like someone has blow torch on my leg bone!

Hi Gary,
I am also an L1 incomplete and I suffer the same problem.I get a real burning in my left knee and random stabbing pain in my left thigh. It drives me crazy!!
I find it comes on when I have become more constipated than usual or if I have had too much coffee.lol!
It really is the most uncomfortable sensation and I feel the worst of all issues I have in being a paraplegic.
I have been prescribed various anti-epileptic drugs and carbo as you are on but I have a sensitive liver so I cant take it.I am only on physeptone now and it does little or nothing for this nerve type pain.I am probably no help to you but I thought i would share my experience so you know it is not just you. I think it is an L1 trait!!I am sorry to say I have had it for 17 years since my accident so I believe it is permanent.. Take care .Lyndon from Australia

I am an L2 incomplete. I have the constant burning pain in my butt(except for when Im asleep). But sometimes I get these sharp, shooting, stabbing pains in my legs (sometimes I actually clench my fists and grit my teeth just to get through them). Most of the time when I get them it feels like some driving an icepick into my leg, it will last for 4 or 5 seconds then go away and might come back in 30 to 60 seconds (on the worst days) or may not come back for 30 to 60 minutes. And sometimes it will keep coming back to the same spot over and over again, then sometimes it will be totally random anywhere below my level of injury. I havent figured out any rhyme or reason for why or when I get them, but than God that I dont get them all of the time.
