I wasn't aware of this treatment so wanted to share with others who might not know about it either. Copy and paste this link:

My grandfather told me about this and I started doing some research as much as can be done on the internet of course. But I did contact Dr Goldsmith by an email and my husband just called me at work and told me he called our home. When I get any information, hopefully tonight I'll get back to this thread.

This is not a new surgey unless some thing has changed, Dr. Goldsmith has been doing this surgery for years and i was in a expermental study in 1993 in which 25ish people had this surgery at Boston. There were people that came in from all over the world. It was supposed to require 12 months of Rehab after the surgery in which the effects(hopefully gains) would be studied. Sadly very little if any actual information was kept on the patients that did come to the rehab and work our ass's off(6-8 hrs a day, 5 days a week). I never spoke with Goldsmith again after I left Boston, so I guess he really wasn't to curious on how the results were. I spent the 12 months in Houston at the rehab. I can honestly say didn't regain anything from this surgery and I was 2 years post injurty at the time. From the 10 or so people that did actualy come spend the time at rehab I can't think of one that did gain much if anything back.

They actually did a show on 20/20 or 60 minutes I forget which one in '94 a month before my 12 months of rehab was up. They spent over a week there at the rehab filming and doing interviews on us. When they show aired it was a 20 min segment with 18 of those minutes on 2 people that had the surgery, never came to rehab and were suing the Dr. and the Hospital because they were still in chairs and had no improvement. We all signed a (whatever it's called) legal form, as I'm sure you would expect to, stating that there was no promise or anything of the kind that this was a cure. How any one could even begin to think they would wake up and walk is again is beyond me. But anyway after taking a week of our time they showed 2 minutes of those at the Rehab with 90% of those 2 minutes of the quad's that were in the type of shape as Chris Reeves was. Trying to build on people's emotions? You tell me. Anyway this is all a different story you probably don't wanna hear so...

To the point, it isn't anything new and as far as I'm concerned he shouldn't still be doing these surgeries and preaching the effect they will have when he never keeps up with the patiences afterwards to know what type of effect they have had.

If you would like to ask any further question though on this procedure from some one that has had it I'll be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Sorry I havent gotten back here sooner. He did call and told me that the surgery is now performed in Germany because of all the litigation that goes on in the U.S. He asked several questions regarding my injury and soforth. He proceeded to tell me that if I was a candidate it would run around $65,000 for the surgery alone, and another $30k for the rehab that would take around 6mo or so because most ins wont pay for the rehab. So unless I plan to take all the equity out of my home and sell the kids I probably wont be doing this. Not only that but to learn that Texaswheel did go thru the surg and nothing to come of it is depressing. Will we ever get any where with this, or any other cure for that matter.
Shattered Dreams I guess. :)
