Hey everybody. I was just curious as to how many people on here are like me and were born with a birth defect/disease and were not injured in an accident or something of that nature.
I am an 18 yr. old para with spinal cord atrophy (very similar to spina bifida, but not). My lesion is from T4-T10.
Hope to get to know all of you,
Carmen

Hey, I'm Michelle... I don't have SCI myself but my boyfriend Josh does. He has also had a birth defect/disease.

Hi there!
I've had Spina Bifida since birth. I'm not sure at what level as I'm pretty new into looking into all this. About T-5 I reckon looking at the stuff on the site.
I've always found that having been disabled since birth, we're left to get on with it more than people who have maybe had an accident later in life. I'm not getting at anyone as I know that adapting to paralysis after having had function is extremely difficult, but I do think that consultants should be better at providing us with information.
It may just be the way I've been brought up though as my parents have always been of the opinion that ignorance is bliss. I've changed my mind though as I've been discovering more about my disability, finding reasons for it and ways in which I can help myself.
This is a fab site!!
