Hi All,
Im pleased to find this thread. Im travelling to Europe from Australia next year and I think ive convinced my T4 friend to come along. A pretty scary undertaking for me, so I can only imagine what its like for him, having not travelled a huge amount.
But ive never found a challenge I couldnt have a go at so far. Im thinking the key to this is planning.
Ive travelled through europe a fair bit but have never approached it with a wheelchair in mind before.
The idea is to dump the family for a week or so and us boys to fo off on a road trip to take in, amongst other things, Maranello, Monza, Some of the mountain passes (Stelvio maybe), Spa and the Nordschleife. The Latter of course being the main motivation for the trip and somewhat of a dream of ours.
Honestly I had never thought of trying to source a rental with hand controls over there. Where would I start for that? Previously Ive driven the circuit in a Pug 407, and a Ford Focus (diesel) with 5 people in it and luggage careening around the boot :o)
Do you guys have any idea where to start looking for accomodation, or any recomendations?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi again,
Yes we are definately doing the trip. were travelling for about 10 days between milan and spa via marranello, stelvio pass, munich, stuttgart and adenau.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Im especially struggling with a confirmed wheelchair accessible hotel in the Adenau or nurburgring area with accessible bathroom facilities.. a few places advertise wheelchair accessible but the language barrier tends to get in the way a bit to confirm exactly what facilities they have.
Has anyone stayed in one of these accessible rooms on a visit? We would also appreciate any accomodation or other suggestions to do with our destinations.
As far as the nordslieffe goes, I was thinking about hiring one of the racecars that are available. Nothing too fancy but maybe a RS Clio or something.
Thank you.
PS: It would be great to be able to secure hand controls for some laps around the ring for my friend but i think its probably just a bit too hard to organise.

Hi BMVBloke. Yep I have stayed at the Nurburgring Novotel. It overlooks the GP track and has two accessible rooms. The bed was a little low (but I managed okay and I am not a super crip - T6 complete and not active) and the bathroom was fine for everything. It's been a while though - 2006 was my last visit.
I hope this information is useful.
