I often get asked this question, and for me it isnt necessarily the most obvious answer. Of course I miss running, jumping, walking and all those physical things, but what I miss, I really really miss, is being invited to friends houses for dinner or just calling by for coffee. I mean we never ever get asked anywhere, I know this is because most people assume I cant get into their houses, which for a lot of the time is true. But I miss the social contact of being with friends and talking to new peple. I miss just seeing inside someones house! I know this is particularly hard on my husband who is by nature quite sociable. yes we do invite people over to see us, and if we are visiting down south we see friends on neutral territory. But God Im sick of Tesco, Ikea, various shopping malls and user friendly cafes. I just really miss the intimacy of someone elses house and a decent dinner party where Im not cooking.

Yes, you have got that just right, Lucy. I have never really thought of it like that, but yes, over the years, (nearly 23 of them) I suppose that is just the sort of thing that one misses. We can't just go out for a drink or lunch without making sure about access, which means the chain pub/ restaurants in the main. (Mind you, there is a briliant restaurant in town, the best in FIfe I would say)

Hi Lucy...
You can drop in to my place anytime for a cuppa!
AND you can get inside........shame I live so far away!!!
but seriously I know how you feel, I get invited to places and one of my first thoughts is can I get my man inside. He always tells me to go anyway but I feel that would be a bit mean of me... also I like to go out with him. Others simply dont invite us.

Oh yes... I know exactly where you're coming from! It seems as if the only friends' houses we've actually been to over the past six years are disabled themselves. Either that or maneuvres that my husband will only agree too if we're going to one set of really close friends. We've made quite a few new friends over the past years whose houses we've never been to - on the other hand we entertain a LOT and our house is usuually full on weekends, holidays, etc. Yeah Lucy, even though I'm not the disabled one, I also wouldn't mind going to a dinner party where I'm not cooking
That being said - if you're ever in my part of the world (Israel), you're more than welcome - and there's usually quite good access here too!
Good luck with the new job - sounds great, hope you enjoy it.

Yes Lucydog I can appreciate how you feel for your husband..in our relationship I am the gregarious one ( I'll talk to any one) so I do know how isolating it can be..
I am lucky in that I really enjoy cooking...no really!....and we do have enough space to have everyone over.
We do get asked to dinner, but then it's the " oh but will ...be able to get in" and even "will he be able to eat "whatever it is ..so then I just have to restrain myself from saying something cutting.
Also..He always seems to get trapped in the corner with the most boring person in the room so we normally work as a team......!!
Well done on the new job...hope all goes well.
