I have a Fujitsu which I've had since Dec 08 and the E key came off and I broke the hard drive tapping and unwrapping a chocolate orange lol, repaired that, E key still not fixed ha xx

Those little lap trays with a beanbag base sit really nicely on the lap, and leave a hard base under the laptop for it to cool. should be easier if you are moving form room to room, and they are really light. they have added bonus of being able to adjust angle so if you are lying wiht your laptop on your stomach you can tip it down towards you for easier typing.

I'm another mac fan. I realise your reasons for not wanting one, but healthy competition can do nothing but good for Bill Gates. I totally adore my macbook and it multitasks spectacularly!

I hope it's not too late (didn't read through the whole topic). I just stopped in to do some research and this one caught my eye. Anyway, I just picked up a Compaq Presario CQ62 with Windows 7.

For those who don't know, Compaq is made by HP, who is one of the two leading manufactures, IMHO. The other being Dell. The only thing I don't like about this model is the keyboard layout. There is a row of keys down the left for extras and I'm constantly launching the calculator when going for the Ctrl key. Other than that, it's a great machine.

As for Windows 7, I think Microsoft may have finally got it right. It only took them, what, 30 years.

Having said that, I've always been a fan of the Mac! Unfortunately, I've always had the income of a lesser make.

a couple months ago after i got out of the hosital i picked up my new laptop.

and it is 6.4 lbs

its the best version of this computer u can buy off the shelf.
i honestly dont know what the interconnnect speed is between the cores, i tried to find it and couldantsomeone else with a greater knowledge of computers would be able to spit off some more details
but those are the basics. i got it at best buy on special for $899.99 prebooted. i do believe it was normally $1,199.99, and i qualified for the 12 months no interrest credit card they offered so it was pretty cool. it works for me cause i do video and photo editing =)its comparable to our moderators macbook. well id like to think so anywho. =)

I went into Best Buy last August during a big sale, told them I needed a new, not refurbished, laptop with the capability to run music/movies/you tube while gaming and chatting... I rarely do all three at once but I wanted the option and speed. I then told them I need something I can lift with one hand... I ended up with the 13in HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, its only downfall is that it came with Vista... but that was a few months before Windows 7 came out, ... Vista is as picky as a Mac, safe yet frustrating at times.. be warned!

Also I got this laptop cooler, http://www.bestbuy.c...1&skuId=8850488 it doesnt look like much but a flimsy pad but it SERIOUSLY works. I tend to flip it over if Im on computer a few hours, like flipping a pillow, it works wonders for keeping computer cool.

I have a Acer Aspire 3000, i've had it for a few years with no problems. I just got a Acer Aspire one netbook that I love, it's cute little and blue (my favorite color). I hope you find a good one.

Just done likewise, got an Acer laptop, and just - today picked up the Acer Aspire One notebook. Sure is a nifty little thing, Bright Red too !!
Thought it would be easier to cart around hospital with me when on extended stays!
Only think I am finding at the moment is the keys are tiny in comparison to the laptop. Never realy though they'd cause me an issue, but you know what thought did! Havind some major issues with my hands and fingers, loss of sensations, weakness etc.... But who cares, I love these Acers. 3 years with the laptop and not a single problem (touch wood)

It my work laptop. Got it when I started in my new capacity as 'project Officer'.
It's pretty handy, but is fast getting filled up with lots of pesky work stuff. how inconvenient.
I'm sure I am transgressing about ten different departmental policies with it.
but who cares, right?

It's going to be my trusty companion when I'm immobile for six weeks after shoulder surgery.

I have a wuvly blue one and I have loadsa stickers on it.
I glued shiny things all round the screen which won't allow me to close it properly but it looks really really cool.
It has loadsa UPS or UBS thingies and I can put my christmas tree into one of these ports and it makes choo choo noises when I right click on the screen.
It allows me to play movies...........Scooby Doo is my favourite, you know the episode where they find the ghost causing trouble in the mine, that's brill and the graphics are very good against all my shiny things around the screen........I don't know what make it is as my sister took the name off it cause I got too many blisters on my tongue from licking it..........

WOF: Guess what. My new netbook has been fixed now. By a man, yesterday. By a man. Yes. I admit it. I couldn't do it. (I could just install the printer driver ...) Yes, men are (generally) better at that kind of stuff. Competent, patient. Yes, we do need them. Yes. For the moment, my netbook works (to perfection? probably not).
