Bear Snatches Wheelchair-Bound

Anchorage Police are asking residents to take extra precautions around bears after a bizarre incident Thursday morning almost a triggered a bear attack in East Anchorage.

Officers say they responded to the 200 block of Yellow Leaf Circle just after 10 a.m. when neighbors called to report a woman was chasing a bear down an alley.

When they arrived, they learned that a black bear had jumped into Karan Nixon's fenced yard on the nearby Orange Leaf Circle, snatching her pet rabbit "George" with its teeth.

After hearing the rabbit screaming, the Nixon, who was wearing stockings, then chased the bear through several yards and down an alley.

However, the bear kept running, jumped over a fence and took off with George.

Neighbors say George was well known in the neighborhood because his back two legs were paralyzed, so his previous owner built him a two-wheeled cart to get around in. In addition, George was in training to become a therapy pet.

Neighbors also told police they were concerned for children and other pets in the Muldoon area because that particular bear had been causing problems recently in the neighborhood, getting into trash and people's yards.

Although Nixon was not hurt in this situation, Police say they'd like to remind all Anchorage residents to keep a close eye on their pets while bears are active, especially when they are near food.

If your neighborhood is having bear problems, you should call Anchorage Police at 786-8900.

Is someone is having a laugh here, or was it just me?
If I fall out of my wheelchair in the woods would anybody hear me?

Okay then. You asked for it.

Bear and a rabbit are in the woods, side by side taking a crap together. The bear looks over at the rabbit and asks, "mr. rabbit, do you ever have problems with shit sticking to your fur?" "Nope, never had that problem." says the rabbit.

So the bear picks up the rabbit and whipes his ass with it.

True story, based on actual events.

Sorry, not laughing here...in Floriduh, we possibly have alligators in ANY body of water...if one grabbed my Yorkie, I would jump out of this chair and wrestle her from the gator's mouth...in fact, my SO had that exact dream a while back...

I keep thinking about the poor woman trying to save her pet, her family member (for those of without animals...I feel no relief that it was a rabbit at all)...nope, no humor in this for me...sadness...even though I Love all Life, especially Love alligators, I would kill one with my bear hands if it held my Kali...I would die without my Dog...

On that happy note...enjoy your laughs! To be honest, guess I would also if it didn't hit so close to home for me, as I've had alligators in both of my ponds at times...

In agreement with SW, personally I would prefer a human to get it before an animal.

I have 2 cats, I also have many brothers and sisters, if I was given a choice between a family member and my cats it would be a very hard choice...........Afterall how could I decide which brother or sister it would be to get get chewed.....;;.;;

Alright John - you are asking for it!:)

Sorry Beverly, I really was not laughing at an animal getting killed, but the way Simon posted it I thought it was a human ("wheelchair bound")! I am not an animal lover to a great degree, but I would NEVER hurt one or allow anyone else to either (well, with the exception of feeding my family - like deer). Anyway, Beverly, I'm sorry if I offended you.

Awwww, no need to be so serious, rue! :mfrlol:

No offense taken, of course! Just wanted to show another (my and others') view of this...but I seriously would do as I said...and also understand that some people do not identify with animals as equal to human animals...all sentient beings have a soul if one is to believe anyTHING has one...or not...Life is Life...and in fact, all matter, anything made up of subatomic particles, is just the temporary manifestation of energy, or spirit (or G_d) if you prefer...therefore, we are all equal on this level of existence, regardless of any ethical chosen spiritual (utopian anarchy/pragma) or religious (ritual/dogma) Life path...we/it will all suffer radioactive decay (die) in some fashion, eaten by bear or alligator, perhaps, and either transmutate into another form or return to the whole, however viewed by an individual...so anyway, I still feel sad for the woman as far as her rabbit, but in Light of the larger picture: ashes to ashes...

WAIT! :mfromg: You kill Bambi???

I don't know,,, dangle a crippled rabbit or a yorkie just out of it's reach???

I did feel bad for the rabbit's owner,,, on the other hand, I'm quite fond of hossenfeffer. While I, too, love animals,, that doesn't stop me from eating the ones I find tasty,, which includes bear and alligator, by the way.

Eat rabbits, too, for that matter. Some nice stifado, anyone?

My brother is a vegan (soy cheese, soy milk, etc., no leather shoes or belts even!) and when he visits, I always get this intense craving for a nice thick juicy porterhouse...

The Wild Turkey seriously does have the very best fried alligator tail...it is a small pub, with no kitchen, just a grill and a frier...the cook performs miracles, feeding the entire pub without losing her smile...sorry no rabbit on the menu, but you may bring one for them to cook up for you...

Oh, and ed, don't think I missed the dangling Yorkie comment...the Laws of Karma shall prevail...vengeance is not mine, but in due time it all works out...in fact, I'd like to invite you over for a visit...there's a five foot alligator on the back pond, a twofer in the front, a six foot diamond back rattlesnake on the front porch, and fist sized wolf spiders in the barn...
