If a cure for quad/paraplegia, SCI, MS, etc. was available and was safe (since I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV, assume there are some side-effects) would get the treatment?

Depends what the side effects were, what the "Good news, Bad news" was.

If it was all good news, get out of my way, I'm coming through!

What do you mean by "cure?" If you mean simply being able to walk again, then no, I'd rather be free from all the other, some worse, peripheral problems that accompany SCI...like catheters, bowel programs, UTI's, AD. nerve pain, etc., etc., etc., so if you are selling simply walking again, then please give me that cure for the other stuff...

NOW, if you are going to remove ALL my issues, then I'll walk again...but you must then also rid me of the dropped feet, 50 extra pounds from the five months of feeding tube...along with all the other remnants of fractures and injury that came along for the ride...I could never walk again with all this metal in my back...and the fact that they reconnected me quite crooked...also they reattached my shoulder wrong and I cannot lift my left arm...also my right elbow doesn't quite bend or extend...my ribs never healed right, and some stick out...will you also fix the throat problem from the vent and trach? Clean up the suprapubic hole and messy junk around it? There's more, but you see? It is not just the SCI for some of us...and it is not only about walking again, though that would really be convenient...

So, please, pass the "cure" this way, along with the other fixes, and I'm in...just put it on my tab...THANK YOU! very much...I appreciate that you were able to accomplish this! Seriously, thanks for posting!

Oh, and who cares about side effects!? Baclofen, oxycodone, Valium, coumadin, all those antibiotics, etc., etc., all have side effects...so what? I'll take whatever I need and deal with the effects! Let's go! :H2kOther (26):

You're in luck! This cure not only reverses any/all symptoms...you receive compensation for medical expenses (retroactive), allows for 2 monthly massages, and adds your name to the list of possible Pulitzer Prize recipients. SIDE EFFECT: Hallucinating this as reality

I don't see how anyone would say no to this?

If we're completely cured with no side effects, that would be a no brainier.

Sure, I would get it.

Better question, were there a clinical trial to test a possible cure that has only been tried out successfully on rats, would you submit to it? Likely, you would have to do some therapy like this:

Kinda like asking: If offered a million tax free dollars for doing nothing would you accept it?..or..If stepping out of the way of a speeding train would save your'e life, would ya do it?....Perhaps next time you might simply ask: Are you folks on this board totally stupid or not?

For everyone who posted "this is dumb": Simply don't read the thread. I posted this because I was curious if anyone was satisfied with themselves as a quad/para. So...thanks for the negativity.

I thought we all kept it rather positive...pretty sure you would not get any takers on the "satisifed with themselves as a quad/para" idea... :yikes:

What a great post. I love the positivity!

To answer the question, yes, I would absolutely take the risk and have the surgery. I'm ready right now to be the Guinea pig and have the procedures done to me to what they're going to rats. Why not? What are they gonna do, paralyze me??? :head_brick_wall-1:

At the risk of sounding snarky, how could any para or quad, etc., be satisfied enough with their situation to willingly remain such if there was the prospect of being restored? Doesn't make sense unless you have some strange desire to punish yourself or play martyr. I see nothing noble or beneficial about being an SCI over an AB. I may have adjusted to it, but I haven't surrendered to it and never will.
