AND, being that this Country is base upon greed and self-interest (research anything about the REAL reason(s) for the Revolutionary War...it was not those silly ideals we were taught in school, but greed...our "Founding Fathers" simply did not wish to pay taxes to Great Britain, and they much preferred gobbling up real property -oh let's call it "Manifest Destiny"- and Georgie could survey some land, a little for you, a lot for me ) it should not surprise that the profit motive is Almighty...profit before people is the Way of the Land...
Interesting comment. I believe that Lincoln was driven by the best motivations, but the emancipation of slaves was not the reason the Civil War was fought. Under the altruist banner, old scores were settled, and the hated South was going to be given a good hiding. The major political thrust was to preserve the Union, thus maximizing the federal principle, where cessation could not be allowed.
I am interested to know how things would have panned out in the world, if the USA had really become the Dominian of North America - and would it have been twinned with Canada. Perhaps a topic for a good film!
I was not fond of G Bush, but there is an ethical consideration which lies outside a strictly religious remit. The Hippocratic foundations of medicine are in fact pre Christian. The controversial use of EBCs might just as well be discussed in agnostic philosophy.
Agree very much that greed is a terrible thing. Both American and British culture extol the virtues of being a "winner" - competition is supreme. I believe that humanity must cooperate. Company kudos should never be allowed to rule in medicine; yet this area is where it is strongest.
Best wishes, and sorry for a long comment!
