I've had a stage 4 pressure ulcer on my sacrum (ass) for over a year now.The past couple weeks I've been running fever...vomitting...etc. Long story short, I'm in the hospital and an M.R.I. confirmed the infection is down to the bone. :head_brick_wall-1:
Last yr I started using a wound vac and after a short time I started getting infections and eventually osteomylytis which was treated with several months of I.V. meds through a pic line. After sometime I lost the vac due to lack of progress. During this time different dressings and creams were used and I never got an infection. I didn't heal either, because after so long I quit the whole bedrest thing. Bad choice...
My wound began to tunnel...and it was decided we would unroof the tunnel and try the vac again. (a little over a month ago.) I wised up you know...bed bed bed...yet here I am...and I swear this vac is responsible.

I'm going to run this by the wound care doc, but was curious if any of you guys have been in this situation or had any ideas, suggestions, anything. Can something desighned to prevent infection promote it? I know Ill beat this infection, but have no idea how to beat this sore!

Your situation is exactly the same with mine. just kicked the KCI vac few days ago after realising that someone was making big bucks and yet i was deteriorating. no infection ,vac sucking nothing , wound getting deeper , damn thing has been on me for almost 2 years. 1 point , did a flap with DFW finest surgeons , never really closed. 4 months of dressing and applying stuff , no go.
im back to dressings every other day till surgery in 2 weeks...U ARE NOT ALONE , trust me .This ulcer thing sucks.

I think Ill get rid of the vac and go back to medi-honey and more time in bed. Deteriorating is the right word. Ive lost over 50lbs and my murderball dreams. I dont have the weight right now for flap surgery and eating doesnt come easy while sick.
Thanks geek...let me know your progress................Mike

I believe that most dumbass nurses do not know how to correctly use the wound vac...
If placed on a joint or near bone, in my opinion it will destroy it...

But try to get the money grubbing KCI assholes to admit to that, ha....

It destroyed my pelvis and I'm missing my right leg, but why would they give a shit....
