I do a bit of fly fishing and get really frustrated at the lack of access and lack of clear info about access. I wrote to the fishing press a few years back suggesting that when they do venue listings they give some access info but to no avail.

Are you aware of the disabled anglers group?

Yes Tin ...i am a member but they dont do much down south,,,infact i think there last newsletter was over 2 yrs ago.
Ihave found this lot...http://disabledfishingtalk.forumotion.com/forum.htm but again most of the waters are up north and too far to travel in 1 day. I think thats its a shame when ya think that over 54.000 disabled ppl have a rod licence!!

I started fishin again about a yr ago and I have been Hooked ever since. I'm very fortunate to have two good friends that enjoy fishin as much as I do and dont mind to take me around to the fishin spots. Therefore I dont really have to worry about the accesibility... The lakes that I usually frequent by myself are owned by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. They usually keep it the grass cut down low around 3/4 of the lakes. Really makes it easy on me to fish. As far as finding a lake that is truly accesible, I think you will have to give each one a try. Trial and Error, because most of the lakes around here that advertise being "Accesible" have only a concrete platform with rails around it positioned in the worst location for fishin... Accesible if you dont want to catch any fish. Think they missed the Memo that Fishin means that you want to catch some... Good luck and have a good one....

I do a lot if fishing in Scotland but it is sea fishing. I have never done any fresh water fishing, it has always been sea fishing since a kid.

I got back into it a few years back as my son showed an interest. He has since dropped his interest but I continue to fish all over Scotland.

Have a look at the BDAA as they seem to be pro-active.

Also, have a look at the Wheely Boat Trust as they might have something near you.

I hope this information helps

My husband loves to fish. He is lucky that there is a lake not too far from our house that he can roll right up beside the water. He has a hard time to cast as it's difficult to get away from the trees and not be on slanted ground. He also occassionally fishes from a warf that is near his work. He finds that quite easy as he can park right on it. Off topic a bit but he hunts also. We're in Canada and he actually has a card in his wallet that allows him to shoot his gun right out the window of the van. He probably would just do it anyway, he's like that, lol.

Well I am in Australia and do a lot of fishing I have a quad bikeand I ride it into the shallows up to the footpegs then I cast from there. We do a trip up to the northern territory once a year barramundi fishing with my son he has a fishing boat he noses the boat into the bank and I transfer into the boat. But you have to watch out for crocadiles.

I wished you were near me because I would take you fishing with us. We also have a pontoon boat and just roll right on as well. Pontoon boats are great access for wheelchair fishermen. Same here about not getting access from land so we have to have a boat kept in a marina to get to it from a chair. Best wishes and keep casting!!

I fished my whole life and after my injury I quit for a couple years, frustrated mostly because my hands dont work well. But a friend of mine forced me to go again... and now i cant quit. I just had to learn to use what i got.I live in southern missouri and actually went fishing yesterday... it also helps that my dad is a fisheries biologist, and is more than happy to take me whenever he can, but still i usually fish alone. I have got access to some nice private ponds as well.

I just went offshore fishing this past weekend in Key West Florida this past weekend. I went for a bachelor party and the crew at fish monster charters was great. the boat was completely accessible and I even pulled in a few fish myself. the boat was a brand new 43 sport fish had a cover when i needed shade and plenty of room for 8 guys and a wheelchair. I have to say for my first time on a boat since when i broke my neck on one last year it was very relaxing. check them out at www.fishmonster.com

I can't wait to try out fishing again. In Ontario your disabled parking permit is also your free fishing licence.

Anyone who uses a wheelchair and likes to fish-or just get out on the ocean!please check out this website and help out by completing this survey! He needs the responses to get funding for fully accessible wheel-on fishing boat for SOuth Florida! and the Keys ! Please share with those you know..thanks!
