For 35 years I've never used catheter except in the first two months post injury. At the beginning I managed bladder by reflex voiding. Later I changed to valsalva voiding. For those who are not familiar with this method of bladder management it is [b]rising abdominal pressure by moving diaphragm and leaning down. It was fine until a year ago. Now I couldn't void competetly and at night and have to get up three or more times to piss. Also I have a leak. Thanks to this forum (thak you all !) I know all dangers if I don't change it and options that I have, but so far haven't changed for fear of UTI. My UTI have been rare the last was 2004 and for a couples of weeks was cured.

I have questions:
Is there anyone who uses similar mehtod of bladder management or have changed it, would you share your experience?
What you urologist or SCI doctor says abut it?

I'm grateful to all that posted so far and all that will answer.
Tank you all in advance.

Rudy

Hi Rudy,

I had posted a clip here relating to valsalva voiding. I will get back to you when I find it.

Millard

Hi Millard,

Thank you very much for your answer.
I browsed all your posts in Bowell&Bladder section and found very precious information related to my condition. You post to another forum where I found exactly the same case as mine. You own experience is also very similar to mine. As I understand 30 of your 40 years post SCI you didn't cath and used reflex voiding. This gives me some hope that I'm not too late to change.

Thank you once again, wish you a nice day.

Rudy

Hi again Rudy,

Yes, we are very similar in our renal management. After starting CIC, I regret not doing this years ago.

Good luck with your choice.
