My husband suffers from an incomplete SCI at C5 and C6 and is taking a whole cocktail of tablets including oxycontin, tramadol, baclofen, diazapam or amitriptyline, diclofenac, paracetamol, lansoprazole all for pain and spasms, plus atenolol and bendroflumethiazide for blood pressure. He is showing signs of autononic dysreflexia and has been told that he now needs to self catheterise as he keeps showings signs of retention. He also has inflamation of the liver which according to the NHS doctors and most of the other specialist he has seen is most probably down to the cocktail of tablets, but according to the specialist for the Accident Claim Court Case it is down to being obese.

Now my husband is 6 ft tall and weighs 16 stone, he is only in a size 36 jeans and most of the time when his stomach is swollen it is down to retention or constipation, but according to the specialist we have seen, it is a sign of obesity. Admittedly, he has put on some weight due to not being able to exercise, muscle spasms and spasticity in legs and arms, plus immense pain, but we do not see how it can be put down to being over weight. All the other doctors we have seen say it is tablets, but the one we need to rely on in Court said it is obesity and to eat a small amount of food and stop eating while you are still hungry.

This really added insult to injury, can't drink alcohol, can't have sex, can't pee for himself half the time, constant constipation, due to spasms every day and severe spasms at night, social life, work and hobbies affected, struggling to walk and use his arms, and now he is being told not to eat hardly any food!

Does anyone else have problems with their liver and their tablets as this is really worrying and annoying us.

As part of the Court case we had to see a psychiatrist recently and he had not seen any medical reports linked to John's injury, he listened to us and said he felt that we were over worrying and exagerating the SCI, we were so annoyed that we insisted that the reports were sent to him, when he read the reports he back tracked and said that he now saw that we were not over worrying. The way they make money off peoples misfortunes, and then don't even think before they write a report is disgusting.

Anyway, if you or anyone you know has similar liver problems can you let us know as we would like to prove a point to this Specialist that it must be tablets, because no alcohol is drunk due to medication, no un prescribed drugs, no real fatty food is eaten as I enjoy cooking and we mostly eat home cooked meals of good quality meat, fish, vegetables and pasta etc, and only the occassional fry up or take-aways.

I think people on this site understand SCI far more than most doctor as if you suffer from SCI you have no alternative but to learn about it.

Wife of an incomplete SCI - level C5/6 - accident lifting boards above his head in work caused popping sensation in his neck and this was the result. He uses a wheelchair part of the time.

Never say never, and definately do not quit, its usually worth the trying in the end.
