Hi all

Pain in t7/8 scar area hurts real bad and is limiting my mobility and sitting and standing a lot.

Anyone tried these pain management measures? I have tried looking around here and cant find no write up on them. They were first recommened by a leading charity here in England for what they suggest I may have is 'failed back surgery syndrome'.

My Dad tried both methods. He likes the patches the best. Both the patch and injection worked about the same for him so therefore he went with the patches to avoid the injections.

Ahhhh thanks for replying Talia Sky. If these injections are not going to make much more difference then the patches I will stick with them patches.

I haven't heard of either. Is this like a local anesthetic used for localized pain, or is it more general? I'm still on the trail of relief, so am very interested.

Hi Edlee

Yeap the patches are also called Versatis medicated plaster. Its a local anaesthestic that works by reducing the pain on the skin. It helps with the 'sensations of pulling and as if someone is stabbing me with screwdrivers' that I have on my scar area.

It dosnt take away pain competley but it does help with the 'horrid sensations', if I make any sense to you. Its just one less thing to deal with.

An injection may help as its going deeper down, which is where my problem originates from.

I have had the patches before and they really didn't help me any, my mom has used them on her lower back and it seems to help her, I have never heard of the injections.

I sorry to hear they didnt work for you, maybe its a different kind of pain you have to me and you mum. I hope you find something that does

I have the patches, but they have never been able to stay on my skin longer than 5 minutes.....unless I duct tape them to my skin.....so I have never had any luck with that. I've never had the injections in the skin, but have had spinal injections and those in my shoulder involving the lidocane. I feel for ya, my scars drive me batty at times....many many many years later and they still itch and hurt like an SOB lol

I have heard that, too....but kinda hard to tell my kids "say no to drugs" but mommy's weed is ok...kinda oxymoron lol

Yeah, they don't hurt and itch all the time, seems like it flares up and lasts for a week or 2 and then stops for a while and repeat..lol

Thanks positive thinker. AS days pass, the patches work more. I get so ruddy tired though. Dosnt stop my day but makes me slow down. After years of running around non-stop i am glad i am on lyrica. makes me feel stoned but without the paronia or that trapped in me own head feeling - i have lack of sensitivity with these but small price to pay. I am glad you get a holiday from the scar pain - even if its just a few weeks, thats something I dont feel so disappointed now

I've tried the lidocaine patches lots of time and I don't get any relief from them. The coolness from them when they first go on helps a little, but may as well just use an ice pack instead if it's the cold affect that helps me.
