So, I heard one day on youtube, and from a couple friends, that there was this "Life in a Day" vlogging of sorts going on. One could capture something, anything from their everyday life and submit it into this documentary called "Life in a Day." Well, I thought why not, and uploaded a video of me transferring with a slideboard onto my bed (I'm still a noob at pop-overs...) I did not expect the overwhelming response from the youtube community to say the least! I thought I would share it with you guys, because it's this site that has been helping me from before Day 1.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

Hey great job! I had something for the "Day in the Life" YouTube thing but I fell asleep and missed the deadline to post.
Anyway don't you wish there was a wheelchair where the wheels weren't so hi up by the seat? That's my problem when I transfer (I transfer just like you). My wheels seem particularly high and are in the way. The arm rests are those ones that swing back (one broke off when I was carrying a heavy load of groceries on my chair back and I guess the weight was to much). So I still have one but I never use them or it; it gets in my way when I'm traversing the terrain.
Anyway again, if the wheels were more low it would be easier. Sometimes I'll use a pillow to transfer like I use the board. I am able to transfer without the board to chairs and the couch. It took alot of upper body building exercise with a Pilate's ring and exercise bands. Also a set of dumbbells. That's how I started transferring with the pillow. I would leave my transfer board by the front door and be too lazy to go get it when I went to bed so I used a pillow and it worked.
OK I'm rambling
Good job

You know, I think I know exactly what you are talking about. But, in my case, it's the dump of the chair that creates the problem with the wheel. When I first got home, my loaner wheelchair was a bit different, and the dump wasn't as steep / I wasn't sitting as low in my wheelchair. This actually worked pretty well, because it was easier for me to lean to get my pants off and on if I wanted to cath by myself. Once I got this wheelchair (which, don't get me wrong, is amazing because I can put in power assisted wheels...), it's pretty much impossible for me to get my pants/depends on sitting in the chair. I've notice for transferring, if you shimmy up a bit so that you are in front of the wheel, it helps.
I've thought about this quite a bit, because my wheelchair is quickly becoming too small for me. There was this whole thing where I was living in my dad's girlfriend's house and her door wasn't that wide because it was an old victorian home, and now we've moved from that location and the door is much bigger. We thought when I first got my chair that it was pretty tight, and only after 4 months old, it is rubbing on my legs / my left power assist wheel keeps "popping" out of the wheelchair frame. No idea. Although I really liked the lesser dump to the previous chair, I tend to fall out of mine quite a bit...because I'm a dork, and I run unto a LOT of thing with my caster wheels. But I digress (quite a bit... lol)
Anyways, I totally know what you are talking about. Or I think I do.
