Ugh! I'm tired with all these damn problems about being in a stupid wheelchair!
Ok, kinda wanted to throw this out there to see if you guys have any advice for this sort of thing.
There's this band that's coming about 90 minutes away from my town. They start at about 7:00 p.m. The thing is, my normal cath schedule is 6 - 7:30 a.m., 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. , 2:45 - 3:30 p.m. , and around 7:30 - 8 p.m. Not only is my cath schedule around the time they start, my bowel program is also normally around 7:30 p.m. I've been talking to a girlfriend I have around here who's been in a wheelchair for about 8 years, and she told me to go with a real good friend, because the bathrooms are not that accessible. Now I wasn't think about doing my bowel program there, because I'm still pretty new at pop-over transfers, and would need to bring gloves and the whole nine yards, and I don't think the friend that will be able to bring me will be that supportive. However, the time I will need to leave my place would be around possibly 4 p.m. , which would leave me with a bowel program that would be around 3 p.m. I know this is a huge gap of time from when I normally do my bowel program at 7 p.m. , but I really don't see any way around it. As for cathing, I probably could get away with doing it after the show...? It depends on how much I would drink/sweat at the concert. I really don't know for sure, and if any of you could help me out with this, that would be great. I have yet to do anything like this before, and I was asking my AB father, who is one minute really supportive of doing what I want, and then now he's asking me if it's a good idea, and making me doubt it all. This would be my first concert after my sustaining my injury and it's seriously my favorite band alive; one that's helped me through this entire troublesome time.
I just really want to go see them, and I'm really tired of having to think everything like this through, or thinking I should give it all up because it's a drastic change from my regular bp times. My para girlfriend told me if I wanted to do something, I should do my bp earlier, and do things. Don't let this dumb wheelchair/paraplegia be a hindrance to things you once found joyful. I just don't really know, so I thought I'd ask ya'll.
Thanks for the advice in advance!!!!

hi halobear,
i would do your bowel program the day prior. if you do your program daily i'd just do it early that day. as for the cathing. you could cath before the show starts and right after it's over. or if you want to drink all you want without worrying i'd wear a legbath and an indwelling cathater.
you should be able to be flexable with your schedule. no one can live their life around programs and cath schedules.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

Whatever your scedules are they should be built about you and not the bathroom
SIC are not strict routines timewise only in that you should avoid over pressurising the bladder, early later no probs
Bowl routines very from me to you to your friend, how flexable you can be will solely based on your experiances
Go see your band and enjoy

I don't see the cathing issue as a big problem. I would just cath as soon as prior to the show as possible and depending on how much you drink, cath during an intermission and then immediately after the show.
I can understand why the bowel program would be a concern. I don't know how many days away the concert is but, if you have several days, this is what I would do. Starting today I would do my BP at 7:00 instead of 7:30. Tomorrow I would do it at 6:30 instead of 7:00, and continue the schedule until it is early enough for you to do your BP before you go to the show. Some people are more sensitive to these changes in BP but, I think the gradual change should be ok.
I do my BP every morning about an hour after I eat breakfast, usually around 8:30 or 9:00. If I have an early appointment or something else going on, I just wake up earlier so that I can get started with my routine and be where I need to be on time.
I know this whole planning around pissing and pooping sucks, but it is what it is and we can't let it control our lives. Definitely go to the concert and have a great time!
