Hello all,

I am a concerned and proactive family member of a wheelchair ridden brother. My brother is having trouble consistently remember to change the position of his seating which has lead to the development of pressure sores. I wanted to ask and discuss any helpful tips or products that anyone uses to get rid of this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan

dear jonathan,

this issue has been discussed at length and you'll find a lot of info in the archieves. just type in cushion in the search box at the top of the page.

i have been injured for 24 years and so far haven't had any skin issues. i shift every 30 minutes or so. sometimes i just lean forward in my chair to get pressure off my rear or sometimes i do a full push up or at times i lean side to side.

i am thin and the stimulite honey comb works great for me. there are some excellent cushions on the market.

best wishes,

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

Hello Jonathon.

I've been injured for 16+ years, with no pressure sore issues thus far. I've been using Jay Active cushions ever since I left the hospital. Staying active, IMHO, is crucial to avoiding skin issues. When you are active, whether you are playing sports, or hiking, or just going constantly from Point A to Point B, you are naturally changing positions and taking pressure off of spots that might otherwise break down. So make sure that your brother isn't just sitting around feeling sorry for himself, and you'll be doing him a huge favor that transcends just preventing pressure sores.
