Hi guys - newbie here, first post, pity its a slightly negative one. Been a long term reader, and gained useful knowledge from this place.

Problem - the Mrs (T6 complete for 10 years) had first child 6 weeks ago. since thn had two or three times of the same symptom - possiblke twice tonight (UK time). Abdomen 'tight', extreme difficulty breathing (normally v good, she played basketball /handcycles a lot) - but last time it appeared to be just trapped wind, and the issue passed. She has had the same problem tonight - once badly, the secnd tine mildly. (sorry for any typos - typing on a tiny palmto thing in the dark whilst she and chilkd sleep next to me)....

she found that as she tried to lie down, it got a lot worse. best posistion was sitting on side of bed, feet on floor.

not sure if this is a) trapped wind, b ) womb spasms from contracting (she is breast feeding which does cause this) c) mild food poisening d) not enought food (possible - she hasnt eaten as much as normal lately, and feeding child takes a lot...) e) other.


answers on a postcard please!

oooo tricky one and I dont reckon its a negative post. Its hard to make a first post up anyway. And if no-one replies,maybe just join in the other threads. I'm new too.

I reckon it could be womb contracting - if she gets tight band with the 't-spine' normally, this will just make it worse due to muscles etc. And that affects the breathing bad too - But it is only an answers on a postcard guess, I know nothing of the human body, only what I have that sounds similar.

I personally would ring NHS Direct up.

I think she is very brave to have a baby. Shes tougher than I am

still bad this morning - so the neighbour - who also happens to be the local doctor - who did his internship at Stoke Mandeville - popped in and had a poke. strong painkillers up the wrong end Looks like its gallstones. No more lard for the wife then! Super low fat diet, which stops the gall bladder doing anything, hence hopefully stops the spasms.

oooo them painkillers are good stuff. They ought to help her well. I am glad you called a doctor in after all - good thinking and lucky you to have a doctor next door too

ah the joys of gall stones. I was told no fatty foods including fish, dairy, spicy foods, or alcohol. That was before I had my gall bladder removed after being sick for 9 months and loosing a lot of weight because I couldn't keep most foods down. Salads without dressing are great, plain pasta, steamed veg, veggie broth. In the end I couldn't tolerate carbs so bread was out. Also I found whilst having attacks curling up in a ball on my right side helped a lot or leaning forward with feet on the floor does the same thing. Diagnosis is confirmed with ultrasound. In my case my gall bladder would only fill 32% and not empty properly (only to 29%) so I had to have the surgery which is done laparoscopically (5 small cuts) these days unless there are complications during surgery.

Its now fixed - she had the bladder almost completely filled with stones.

The gallbladder was full of stones, causing intense pain - but as it is below her feeling line, she didnt know - until it got so bad (3 years we reckon with hindsight) that her whole abdomen was spasming, causing the breathing difficulty.

Gall bladder removed, pain gone, breathing restored!

Keyhole surgery - in at 12, out at 9 that night. Steak the next day.

It was so bad, that the last month she couldnt eat anything except plain boiled rice, plain boiled lentils, marshmallows (bizzarely), and rice crispies. lemon was out, all oil out, all wheat / oats was out.... she lost 3 stone (20kg)..... scary. And whilst breastfeeding.... Milk production almost stopped (very emotionally draining) - but shes now back on form.
