Hello anyone! I am t12 para since 1969 and am planning a tour of Israel early next year. I've got specific areas and places to visit, but before I enter all these I'd like to know if anyone out there has any knowledge about accessibilty in Israel PLEASE? I'd be grateful for any information once in contact with anyone with knowledge. Thank you. Attached me in wheelchair kissing my dear cousins head, so you've an idea to whom you're talking!

Hello leglessflyer
You look like Michael McDonald (you look like him in his younger years, I dont know what he looks like now) who sang with Pattie Labelle in that song 'on my own'
I have never travelled out of the country but have spoke to a few people on here who have so am sure they have lots of info for you.
Best wishes

Hi, my sister travels to Israel regularly on business. I've just spoken to her and she said that if you can give me an idea of what places you'd like to see she'll e-mail a guide she knows tomorrow and he should know if they're accessible and possibly suggest other accessible places. If that fails, she'll try to get some information when she visits next month.

My hubby is going for 3 weeks in October and he said that he is especially going to be charting everything out. He has a dream of leading a wheelchair accessible tour someday and so he is checking into all that. I will try to remember to come back to this thread and write his reviews.

I visited ISRAEL in 1981 as a member of a disabled tour. I was one of 14 permanent wheelchair users, and we had blind and deaf travellers as well. Yup, 29 years ago, a long time, but even then the country was remarkably accessible. We stayed in a combination of motels and hotels, stopped off most days for lunch at a kibbutz (all accessible), and even managed historical sites such as Ceaserea, Old Town Jaffa, the Jerusalem Market and the Western Wall.
I would imagine that the country is a lot more accessible now.
One of the highlights for me was visiting Beit Halochem, a rehab centre, with a great restaurant, indoor pools, huge sports halls, and even a shooting range in the basement . . . where, believe it or not, they offered rifle shooting for the blind!
The Israeli's were friendly and helpful . . . we had taxi drivers driving us right onto the beach sand so that we could dip our toes in the Med . . . and pedestrians buy us ice creams when we could not reach the vendors stall window.
I would contact the Israeli Tourism Bureau, and El Al Airlines, and ask them to send you info on disabled travel. In the meantime, try these links, and remember, Google is your friend . . .
