I remember back when I was an aide, I took my student into public men's rooms all the time. I would knock and call before we went in. Then if the door opened while we were inside, I would call, "I'm assisting a disabled person!" Most men waited, but it's funny that a few didn't care...they would just come in and use the urinal while I was there. Well, if it didn't bother them, it didn't bother me! :lalala:

:D   Hi wheelchair Bling

 sorry about the tomato conversation, Some good different advice here. And the above note about the toilets did make me laugh - I'm glad you joined in to stop if getting any steam-ier in the thread   I'm still a newbie on here too - nice to meet you :)

Believe me - who's in a toilet when you use it ain't a big thing
It's more inportant to use it then bother about outdated thoughts

Hi, pinkcloud! Heck, don't worry, I don't have any inhibitions left! Took me years after that job to start automatically going into the ladies' room again - I had to stop and think...

My students were mentally rather than physically disabled, so I ended up in some very humorous toilet situations (If you find humor in being trapped in a small cubicle with a teenager who doesn't want to teetee in the potty - he wants to smash the potty and teetee on the caregiver! :yikes: )

In relation to a male going commando.

Me tried all sorts of underwear, downside is you could get marked from crease lines, but I found them a necessity to keep the package held up, I tried going commando style but me packet near the pocket kept going down on leg of the pants, normally deciding all by themselves to go in different directions, both veg down one side and meat the other, very unsightly, especially when VERY noticeable.... Transferring was an experience as at times they would decide they wanna go walk about and sitting on them brings a tear to me eye....Damned if you do and damned if you don't :head_brick_wall-1:

Yo Wheelsonfire I agree with you on underwear i need the support. doing transfers and pressure
relieves could be very painful if you bang or sit on your testies. underwear keeps them
in proper position.

Ah yes, it is a necessity to have support isobar... I remember when I use to take baths, I would throw the legs in first, then jump to the edge and slide myself in, lovely...Ah and then there's the whole getting out, arm on one side, me udder on the udder side, do a dip like motion to raise my muscular frame :emoticon-0165-muscle:....Ah ha ha ha .....and then the water builds in me eyes as I transfer to the edge of the bath, sitting on what I could not hold....:seehearspeak:

psst did that make issue with vision?

And yes, you are well versed with the craic, no doubt now for quiet sometime only using different terminology and the only huge green Sasquatch with a raging hard on in my backyard is myself when I venture out

If you have trouble pulling up your pants and if you are young enough - just ask a catholic priest who has the blessing of the pope to assult you while doing so

At this moment in time this service is only known to exist in Eire and Belgium - but i'm sure more countries will come to offer this service as time goes by

On a more serious note - i have only had the one experiance
In Spain, in a truck stop (of all places)
The disabled loo had a loo, shower, standing hoist, hot air blower, shower chair, racks of towels, full length bench, alarm pull chord all round the bottom of the wall, foot urinal for emptying leg bags.
If there is a heaven, then this was it

If ever there were a motivation to get an Apparelyzed Google Map sorted, this is it. One account - users stick a pin in to mark unexpected places that just went beyond the usual, starting with this mecca of a disabled loo!
for UK residents - DisabledGear.com - the FREE-Ads website for 2nd hand disability equipment.
