Protein Shakes

Hi all,
My accident was seven months ago, I'm now back home and going to physio three times a week. I'm still skinny as a rake and want to try to speed up the bulking up process. I'm not a vain man but when I look in the mirror these days I see that skinny kid that got picked on in high school.
I have been looking into the post work out shakes that promote recovery, reduced fatigue etc.
So my questions are thus;
Do they work?
Are they worth the money?
Did they cause any bowel issues?

I hear what you're saying; I haven't been this skinny since high school. So I do the protein shakes in the form of smoothies (add yogurt, fruit, juice or milk etc...) 3x a day along with my diet. I don't try to do the empty calorie thing but sometimes I treat myself. As you probably know it's not going to be just ingesting the extra calories but exercise as well.
I do the soy powder and when muscle milk is on sale I get it. It's basically I'll purchase whey on sale as well. As far as the extra Calories and protein effecting the bowel it hasn't for me.
It takes time, discipline, diligence and faith in what you're doing. Get a good blender from the get go and have fun. Balance is everything.

For protein I love BNS Syntha-6 shakes. That work real well, don't screw up my digestive tract, and taste good... go vanilla no matter what! For post therapy I use Tapout Sports Recover post workout. They really feed the muscles and keep from getting as sore. I used both of these plus many other products before I got hurt and was into working out while deployed. Howdy, okay your speaking my language here.
Protein, it takes many forms.
before I start I will say this, what you see in the mirror is not the image others see.
Example, I trained for years with weights, bulked up big time, arms a few inches bigger than most peeps neck.
I would look int he mirror and think, Christ am I ever gonna gain size.
I would sit next to others and think, man I wish I could be his size.
His thought; Christ he's a big
You see, when training, there is an anorexia mentality associated to it
Example over....
I'm now back in training so it all begins again.(to a degree)
So you feel you need to put on weight, protein is not the way to go.
You need to eat to gain size, you need to eat at the right times and eat the right foods.
Protein shakes are good for increasing muscle mass, of course you need to be lifting the weights, taking amino acids also as they are the building blocks for proteins to do their job. When upping the weight you need a good time released Multivitamin as a foundation also.
You’re a C injury so you need to be careful, AD(thanks xxm) etc.
Weight will hit the stomach first if your not careful and it’s the last place to get rid.
I could waffle on but I shall refrain, if ya need advice, drop a PM.

Have not learn t how to PM yet, will have to wait until my wife comes home. Would love some advise please. It's not really about the looks although I know what you mean about self image as I do suffer from that. I was mountain biking when I had my accident and if it wasn't bikes it was rock climbing or something. I was planning on taking up kite surfing next but one of those was next door to me in hospital. I have pretty good movement, my entire right side is more less fine except for limited hand function and my left side is not to far behind. Hand function is very limiled and missing some useful leg muscles but I can walk a little and things are improving so I want to strengthen up and see what sports I can get into.
My biggest problems are hyper-extension and fatigue, mostly fatigue. Also impatience perhaps

Prior to my accident, I was a bodybuilder.
I always recommend most people to stay away from soy based proteins, b/c it can increase your estrogen levels and in-turn bodyfat.
Muscle Milk is one of the best brands, and probably the best tasting of all the wheys......and I've tried probably every one of them to judge.
bodybuilding.com is one of the best online retailers for it if you haven't tried them
Don't know about in Hawaii, but in the continental US, they get it to you in 2 days, or less, and their prices are usually the lowest I've found.
