Hello everybody! Does anyone here have experience taking this drug or have you heard anything about it? It has been in development for 15 plus years and was just approved by the FDA January of this year for multiple sclerosis patients. However, doctors are now trying it on SCI injuries as well. I was just prescribed this a little over a week ago and we are in the process of getting that script filled, but it's not as easy as you would think that you cannot go to your local drugstore. You must find a special place that will mix the drugs for you. Not to mention its going to cost around $1000 each month, mainly because this drug was not approved yet by the FDA in spinal cord injury patients. It sometimes referred to as the walking pill. I realize it's not a cure all but was wondering what the experience was from everybody on this board.

Thank you every one!

Stand,

Hello. I know this reply is kinda late but I was one of the first walking quad's ( c/4 incomplete) to try ampyra. The trial lasted from 6/1/10 through 9/11/10. I was really hoping it would help my walking and balance. Unfortunately it did not. The whole concept of passing signals through demylinated paths was very exciting.I do know SCI folks at my re-hab center who have improved using the drug.

I hope it's helping you.

My husband is starting it tomorrow. We were expecting to pay out of pocket, but Medicare paid for it. I'll update about how it goes...we're hoping for good things!!! Very excited to try it!

I tried that in rehab before it had a trade name other than 4AP,in 2008. I didn't notice much difference in spasticity, which is what I was prescribed it for. The side effects of it, at least how they were explained to me were worse than the benefits in my experience.
