There are those that are for and there are those that are against specialist clothing for wheelchair users. Through experience, personal taste and comfort, I prefer to buy trousers and jeans that have been purpose made for me in my wheelchair. I've done so for the last 6 or 7 years, from different sources with different results. Until recently, when I discovered disabledgear.com and a guy called Guy Harris who operates this. I met him at the Mobility Roadshow and the first signs were good in that he wears his own products and happens to be a thoroughly charming and pleasant guy. On this basis, I decided to order jeans and cords from him and have done so several times now. I have found the range of jeans and trousers to be "comfortable", affordable, stylish and totally practical for the wheelchair user. Significantly the service from Guy has really been superb in that he spends time getting to know your needs and is concerned that you are totally satisfied.
Just thought I'd let you guys know that there is a new kid on the block (some of you probably know already) and he is supplying a superb product with superb service. Oh and by the way I'm earning no commission due to my compliments.

What's different about pants cut for people in chairs? Is there something different about the measurements, or different materials or what? What makes them more "practical?"
I have a blog... I've been writing since I was in the hospital.. But I'm keeping that persona and this one separate, so if you'd like the link, PM me

No back pockets,,, whadaya need em for??? Single stitched center seam,,, well flattened,,,,, higher back, lower front, Keeps from bunching in the front and slipping down in the back,,,, longer zipper,, for easier cathing,,, slightly wider cuffs, which make them easier to get on and, for guys, easier to empty leg bags.

These are the advantages of the ones I buy,, there may be more.

"What makes wheelchair jeans different?" is a good question and the one I'm asked the most.

Have added a page on my site to answer the question with some good ol' fashioned bullet headers:

http://www.disabledg...litexJeans.aspx

If anyone has any questions, go right ahead and ask.

Some Apparelyzed members have already bought some jeans - maybe they'll be happy to offer review regarding products in a post, if they see this thread??

Hi SuperDaz - All the legs are made long as this is the easiest part of the jeans to alter - people put in zips and velcro for leg bag access, shorten them, put extra in to flare them, all sorts...!! But by doing one leg, it keeps production costs down and means that we can offer a greater range of trousers at a better price. Obviously this cannot work for everyone, which is always annoying as I know myself how irritating a one-size-fits-all approach is when whatever it is doesn't work for me! But this is the irritation of reality and my fiscal budget! It's the same with the travel shower chairs. But I hope that as I get things right and more turnover, I can increase the things I offer, based on all the feedback I receive. I'm 6'1" and normally have a 36" leg for sitting in the wheelchair, but I haven't altered any of the pairs I wear. Others are only too pleased to alter the leg shorter, because then they get a pair of jeans that work for the 1st time since being in the chair. But as you can see from the post below, 38" is actually NOT long enough for everyone!

Hi there - I'm REALLY sorry that I cannot get you a longer leg at present. I have sent the manufacturers an email this morning to mention this problem and will see how they reply. They have said they will do stuff specifically for me when I have a larger turnover. But not there yet! As for being in charge.... I'm the boss but I make the coffee and clean the loo!!!!! It's only me here : )

If anyone else has any questions, feel free to email me direct: info@disabledgear.com - I'm aware that I shouldn't take up too much board space promoting my products as it will only encourage others and this forum is good for NOT being a commercial space! Though I hope member recommendations will help other members with issues that are often discussed.

Thanks for this. This is an area that is overlooked. I recently discovered a web site that is also worth trying out:

http://www.able2wear.co.uk/index.php

I submitted an order, and was telephoned with some useful hints and questions from the supplier. Although they do not tailor to exact measurement, they want you to gain maximum benefit.

Hi Eric - I post anywhere in the world! (this week Australia & US) Postage to the US is a little pricey. Sending a pair to US today and it's costing £26. I don't make on postage but pass on the cost. SO if you order more than one pair, I'll get a price quote for you before asking for money to check you are happy with cost.

The website is not set up yet to take international orders, so if you email me what you want, i will send you a PayPal Money Request. Once this is paid, I'll send them straight out.

It is important to get your waist measurement correct, as I do exchange or refund, but from the States that's a costly option. Measure while you are sat in the chair and go straight round from front to back, as these are cut to sit on you as though you are standing. Do not rely on your normal trousers (US: pants) measurements.

Email me direct on info@disabledgear.com

Best wishes, Guido (aka Guy Harris)

Hello, all - sorry for the shameless plugging. But with this snowy weather (here in the UK anyway) I thought I'd just remind folks of our Winter Wheelchair Jeans.

In response to the post about Leg Length, I am now in the process of sorting out an Alterations Services page, which currently has one member recommended provider on it, who will work by post.
We have some Outdoors Fleece Lined Trousers at an offer price of £39 also.
If you want Trousers designed for Wheelchair Users AND mainstream fashion, have a look and see the choice offered.
Recently, I have posted jeans to the US, Australia and Finland!
These are this year's Lined Blue Winter Jeans (2590)

UN PAID PRAISE.

I'm also a satisfied customer of Guido's, I have jeans and also recently the offer - insulated winter trousers ( wash with Nikewax and good as new)

Recommended to everyone, also has a resale section for equipment and stuff, well worth the look.
